When he was first linked with us (by his agent?), he was touted at £80m: we don't all agree with much on this board, but I think there was a universal "FFS NO!" at that price. He's a £40m player (though we don't need him now, especially if we get Thurham and/or lavia, even though they're not similar players), so it's not sour grapes when I say that if United want to go ahead and spend £60m+ when it's only primarily because of Chelsea's lunatic spending-spree this calendar year that has inflated prices so monumentally, then knock yourselves out. Perversely, I have to admit that I'd have paid £80m+ for Rice, as he's the finished article, proved in the Prem, and relatively injury-free-ish. I would never have paid £100m+ for Bellingham - it's our budget for 2/3 years and is a hell of a risk. Like buying a Ferrari when you know you'd barely be able to fuel and service it.
Er, well, started off a bit iffy, trailed off at the end, and the less said about the middle the better...
Premier League rules state that, in their 25-man squads, teams are not allowed to register more than 17 players who fail to meet the homegrown criteria. To be classed as homegrown, a player must simply have been registered to an FA-affiliated club for a minimum of three years before the age of 21. Homegrown players (8): Kelleher, Gomez, Phillips, Williams, Van den Berg, Alexander-Arnold, Henderson, Jones Non-homegrown players (16): Alisson, Adrian, Van Dijk, Konate, Matip, Tsimikas, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Salah, Gakpo, Jota, Nunez Notable under-21s: Pitaluga, Bradley, Chambers, Morton, Bajcetic, Elliott, Doak, Gordon As things stand, Szoboszlai’s arrival would leave the Reds with just one non-homegrown slot remaining before the first-team squad reaches the Premier League limit. Adrian‘s latest contract renewal to earn him a non-homegrown place raised eyebrows among supporters given that the Spaniard has played zero minutes since the Community Shield back in August. The squad can be supported by under-21 players, with Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic examples of a player who does not need to be registered within the 25-name list. Clubs can register an unlimited number of under-21 players beyond the 25-man squad limit. For 2023/24, under-21 players will have been born on or after January 1, 2002. Should Liverpool wish to add more players from elsewhere for the upcoming season, they may have to be clever about which individuals they recruit or face having to sell or not register some existing players. Romeo Lavia, aged 19, has been linked with a move to Anfield and is an example of a midfielder who would not take up a non-homegrown slot despite being from Belgium originally. please log in to view this image Like Bajcetic, Lavia would not require a non-homegrown space in the squad even once he reaches the age of 21 by virtue of having played in England for more than three years. Ryan Gravenberch would also present a short-term solution, with the Dutchman falling below the age required to be registered in the 25-man squad for 2023/24. Reports have also indicated that the Reds will look to strengthen the defence this summer, with Chelsea‘s Levi Colwill touted as an ideal solution at centre-back. The 20-year-old would not need to be registered next season and could go on to take one of the homegrown slots from Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips or Sepp van den Berg. In short, Liverpool are pushing the homegrown rules to their limits once again this summer but should comfortably be able to adhere to the regulations even if they are to bring more players in this summer.
the numbers have been obvious. there is numbers for 1 more foreign player as we signed up Adrian. this is why the young cb rumours or the thuram rumours cannot be both be true. the lavia rumours start to look for more real even though they are coming out of the saints camp
I imagine the Adrian one was because we wanted Davies to go out on loan which and means Kelleher will be going no where this year. I imagine plan is gives Davies a year of first team football then next year Adrian will leave on a freebie and Keller will be sold and looking to bring in an experienced English keeper as back up with Davies maybe getting some cup games
its hard to find a bang average English keeper but let's not forget pitaluga who will qualify as hg also. we might just have jaros as well who's playing at u21s. anyway we cut it the 16 foreign players Non-homegrown players (16): Alisson, adrian (goner) Van Dijk, Konate, Matip, (goner) Tsimikas, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago (goner) Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Salah, Gakpo, Jota, Nunez if thiago does go then the two might be possible. any sensible person buys a cb now knowing matip is off next year. integrate and be seamless then not catching up our 8 hg are a bit of a joke and all so we need to just focus a bit more on hg
Wouldn’t surprise me if agent / Juve trying to flog him. Missed most of last season injured and Juve need some cash
FFS Totally agree. Wouldn't mind him tbh but never happening, he won't leave Italy. Mbappe is more likely than Chiesa...
Is Szoboszlai deal complete yet? Several articles I've read seem to be talking about it as if it were, but I'm not seeing anything concrete yet.
