Great work by Irish Brummie Lee Carsley managing England U21 in the European Championship. Through to the quarter finals, convincingly beat Germany in the group stage yesterday with a second string team having already won the group. They haven’t conceded any goals yet.

After their main attacker, Balogun was ruled out pre tournament through injury (though he might just be sulking and preparing to opt for playing for the US) Carsley started the tournament playing 3 defenders and 7 attacking midfielders all shifting positions as needed. Neat.

Todays big game, Estonian 1st division, Tallinna FCI Levadia v JK Narva Trans. Less than 500 of us in the rather lovely 14,300 capacity national stadium where at least 2 club teams play.

it doesn’t get dark here until about midnight. Tallinn is a lovely city.

Agree about Tallin being great but heard it was now somewhat ruined by pissed up stag nights….is that the case in your opinion ?
I was last there over 20 years ago…..on a pissed up stag night :)

Levadia won 3 -0 to go top. But could be overtaken by the team we are seeing tonight FC Flora. Meanwhile Match 2, Estonian 2nd division, Legion v Levadia II (looks like kids). As is traditional on these trips we went to the wrong stadium, but ended up right next to where we were last night…..hangover subsiding slowly.

0-0 25 minutes in. Free entry. Last night’s game was €5.

Nice. I’m thinking of doing a couple of matches somewhere in August if I bother to look at the fixtures and plan some sort of route. Maybe Bilbao and another Spanish or French match but anywhere with cheap flights really.

Just had a quick chat with Curro Torres, ex Spain and Valencia right back who is watching his reserves as manager of Levadia. Nice bloke.

Bilbao v Real Madrid weekend of August 13th but they won’t confirm a time until around the end of this month. £162 return isn’t bad so can probably do flights, hotel and ticket for about £350 rather than £100+ on Cardiff away.

Good luck getting a ticket for first game of the season against Real….
