Very likely has a large part to play, even though we currently offer far lower max wages than yourselves, Spurs etc. Of course, the chances are good that this will gradually change.
Newcastle would need to back last up for a year or two before players would start picking Newcastle over the more established clubs. It's reality and for some reason plenty nufc fans simply cannot understand or accept reality.
Listen, don't let Twitter nufc fans and currently gloomy GG tarnish your pleasure at what we're doing. We're doing excellent work. And GG will cheer up with the next new signing - he even got quite excited when we signed Chris Wood, bless him. Lol
It's sadly true regardless of who's responsible for accepting it or not. It's a fact and I know plenty of fans are incapable to see past their own over inflated view of the clubs stature. Newcastle has been an unsuccessful club for 60 years and is essentially just an also ran in the eyes of the rest of world football. Newcastle is known for losing finals and having a pat on the back for having lots of fans and it's an almighty job to put the club anywhere near the likes of Liverpool.
It's obviously a very long term job to grow the club stature to the point where we are viewed in a similar bracket to Liverpool, Man Utd etc. Happily any reasonable fan can enjoy the fact that we do obviously have more pull now than we have for many years. Trippier, Bruno, Botman, Isak, Tonali... Bigger clubs can't hoover up everyone and we'll hopefully continue buying genuine quality.
I absolutely agree mate and if we're completely honest finishing 4th once doesn't mean the clubs already there which some seem to think. The club will go backwards to go forwards at some point I feel.
Absolutely. All these players coming from Itlay, Spain, Portugal, Germany, etc really aren't coming here for the weather or the prestige. Suspect your new boy Szob (who I reckon is a fantastic player) got himself a decent pay rise. I'm sure there was a tottenham right back a few years ago who said as much. I could be playing nicer football in a nicer country but couldn't refuse the money.
No. I think we need to remember that a) the funds aren’t unlimited. b) we didn’t register a bid / pay the clause on either of the two we “lost” (despite them both being excellent players, more suited to an advanced 8 or 10 role we don’t often utilise) and c) there is loads of time left, unless you’re a bed wetter.
