Off Topic NHS 15 year plan

Whilst I applaud the principle of a 15 year NHS plan, one that doesn’t include pay, isn’t a very good plan, how can they know costs involved if expenditure on staff isn’t known, or at least budgeted for?

im afraid that the NHS is no longer fit for purpose and hasn’t been for 30 years or more.

We are stealing nurses from the sub continent and Asia while Australia take our Doctors and Nurses. As you say, there is no mention or nod to pay and conditions.

It’s too big and is totally unmanageable and what’s worse is that so few people are accountable for all the wasted money and malpractice

You could give them £1bn a day and they’d still waste if on more management layers or woke bs rather that the front line care which is needed and they’d still ask for more

Doctors earning £128k basic, with all the extra work and money they earn privately want to go on strike !
They’re having a laugh

Make every GP Doctors appointment cost £30 minimum, payable in advance and that would cut out all the hypochondriacs for a start

Stop all treatment for cosmetic reasons and for treating young ‘trans’ kids who are by and large just hormonal kids and are confused. Where parents ask for their kids to have surgery before 16, Social Services or the Police need to be involved for possible child abuse.

These kids don’t need life changing and irreversible surgery. An arm around the shoulders and some positivity and love in their lives might be better treatment ?

Apart from that it’s an all great idea Rishi !

I’m sure the NHS could be made a lot better, slimmed down, and more fit for purpose but that’s not going to be looked at.with this plan

And asking 60 year old blokes if they’re pregnant when they offer to give blood, and all the waste that goes with all of the printing and distribution costs for stuff like that is just obscene, and that’s the tip of the iceberg.

We’ve literally lost our minds as a society and a lot of the issues we have are reflected within the NHS itself

It’s a crying shame. When I was a kid it all seemed to work fine, and it was the envy of the rest of the world.

But that was a long time ago. These days you really don’t want to be Ill.

Charging for appointments isn’t the answer, the whole point of a national health service is it’s available to everyone, even and most importantly the poor.

If you start charging for appointments you may as well just give up. The poorest already suffer worse health and lower life expectancy than the rich.

I agree cosmetic surgery shouldn’t be paid for, unless it’s mental health related.

To say all trans patients shouldn’t be dealt with is a bit of a sweeping statement in my view, they should be judged case by case as with any other condition.

I have to say I’m not aware of what you mean about 60 yr old blokes being asked if they’re pregnant so I’m unable to comment.,

it is a shame it’s got this bad, it’s a massive problem, not helped by 13 yrs of austerity, but not wholly created by it either. It does need a rethink and a big reorganisation,

The trouble is it would be expensive and no political party dares to take it on properly.

imo a cross party approach is needed along with senior members of the health profession.

Not one party dare take it on. It’s too divisive
But we are all paying for the vain and anxious, the overweight and a million other things that are not what the NHS was designed for
But due to mis management it has more holes than a Swiss cheese

I agree it needs to be looked at in the whole, but with an open mind, I don’t think doing it with preset objectives however well meaning they may be is the right approach.

I agree that radical change is needed but just to pick up on a point you made, I don't think all cosmetic work should be at the expense of the patient. Wouldn't be fair to people that have suffered burns and other disfiguring injuries.
I like the idea of the 15 year plan but I fear it's just a typical statement of a government preparing to fight an election. That's not a dig at just the Tories, I've no doubt Labour would do it too.
Just my thoughts.

Firstly though, its beyond outrageous that ‘cosmetics’, such as breast enlargement and gender reassignment operations are taking place when heart and cancer sufferers have to wait ages for surgery. The NHS needs to prioritise their resources for life-threatening conditions.
Secondly, a lot of money and time is wasted with the GP service. In France for example, they have doctors that specialise in certain conditions and parts of the body - if you have a leg problem you see the leg doctor. If you have a problem with your eye you see an eye doctor etc. Here, you see a ‘one size fits all’ GP.
I suffer with Gout - and take preventative medication for it which I will have to take for the rest of my life. My GP from time to time insists on me making an appointment with him to talk about it. Why? The condition is not going to fix itself and we both know I’m on the meds for life - why not use that time to see someone new who needs an appointment?
That sort of thing wastes time and money.
I could go on - there’s lots more - but I’ll let others do it. I know some of our regular posters (Cliftonville ?) works in the NHS so he is probably better placed than me to comment.

15 year plans are similar to all electric vehicles by 2030.
Government of all parties know when predicting long term policies that there is a very high chance that either the party and most definitely the PM at the time not being in charge.
So they can make these policies knowing it’s a good voting tool with the knowledge it probably won’t happen so they won’t be the ones to being in power to abolish the plans, when the time comes.

Sort of understand with the gout thing. I’m coeliac and like you never going to grow out of it. But I have to have checks to ensure I’m being good and sticking to my diet. But they also check my bone density once every five years. So if I knew I wasn’t being checked on randomly then I will most probably cheat (I do when I go on holiday, and also if I go to a party) but without checks it would be a 100% chance I will say that nice Chinese I’m going to have, or when I’m hungry in the day in a hurry buy a sandwich. So these bone density checks are probably a lot of money I would te be wasting money and time without the checks.
Also now because of my coeliac I’ve now got a skin condition that effects 3 in a 1000 coeliacs that I will have to take medication and have blood test every three months. Probably gone onto this because I ignored the diet for years and years till they started regular monitoring on me.
What I’m trying to say is like you know we could cheat and in my case costing a lot more to the NHS because I was stupid.

Like you I suffer from gout, the tablets I take keep it in control, I don’t have to speak to a doctor, so probably depends on you GP. There is no need to review, as like you I’m going to have to take them for the rest of my life. Obviously if it returns they’ll need to see if a higher dosage is required. The only thing I can think is I think taking the tablets can potentially affect your kidneys.

I wasn’t for a second suggesting that people disfigured and injured in accidents shouldn’t be helped, but people wanting vanity treatments is another matter
