There's been a lot of absolute bull posted on social media lately by attention seeking fools about player contracts at Leeds ... the only thing you need to understand is that these trolls actually know nothing, and the club haven't exactly been filling in the media on contracts Take a good look around ... not one single respected sports journalist has written a peep about the Leeds manager situation, or player contracts and transfers ... no point in speculating if you don't know Here's the thing about contract clauses, why they get put in and why they're necessary There will definitely be release and/or loan clauses built into contracts when players sign, particularly if a player is a current international ... it's sensible and common practice Minimum Fee Release Clause: this is normal in Europe where all players have this put in, and it's normally well above market value to ensure strong negotiations ... Barcelona have just signed Gundogan on a free from Man City and put a £342m release clause in his contract ... there are cases where clubs get this wrong, example being the wonderful Brighton who lost World Cup Winner Mac Allister to Liverpool for just £35m when they could probably have sold him for £80m Relegation Release Clause: another clause that's commonplace with international players who join clubs where relegation may be a possibility ... will be lower than minimum fee clause, but still a good reflection of the player's value ... in the case of older players, say a Rodrigo who's wrong side of 30, the release value will decrease each season all the way into final year of contract ... it's sensible Relegation Loan Clause: again, nothing new ... this allows the better players to continue playing at a high level and then return more experienced and improved ... if they shine brightly on loan, it also helps to bump up their sale value, so not a bad thing ... this I do know for a fact, the loan clause will include full wages to be paid for the duration plus a healthy loan fee ... e.g. if Adams went out on loan, then his wages would be covered in full and Leeds would receive at least £3m in loan fees Llorente is on a reported £52k a week at Leeds ... that's £2.7m that the loan to Roma will save Leeds, plus a loan fee of let's say a lowly £1.5m for the season ... that's not bad business, and hopefully Leeds add in an obligation to buy for £6m at end of season ... Llorente's previous loan agreement was dependant on Leeds staying in Prem which is why the £18m buy clause wasn't activated ... same happened with JKA, the buy clause was only activated on Leeds surviving relegation ... if the club had gone down, then the JKA deal would have collapsed Players and agents want release clauses put in so that they have the opportunity to move on to better things should their careers go well, and they can't be held to ransom Here's another thing about loan clauses, they won't exist in final year of contract because no club will allow a player to go out on loan in final year and then lose them for free ... what they may agree to is a loan in final year with a fixed fee obligation to buy so that they get money for the player With relegation to the Championship it makes sense for Leeds to loan out some of their talented players to allow them to continue developing at a higher level ... this saves millions in wages and also gets loan fees in to bolster the transfer fund ... in essence, Leeds get paid to have their players developed and hopefully return better and more valuable assets There won't be any silly deals done by Leeds this window, and if a player goes for less than expected, there will be a valid reason why it was done ... all this bull about stupid clauses has been just that, stupid ... there are idiots who still try and discredit Orta by making up garbage about him, don't believe it Orta left Leeds because he had a huge disagreement with Kinnear about bringing in Allardyce, which he was right about ... Kinnear convinced Radz that Orta had to go and Bung Sam would save the club ... that went well ... how Kinnear is still at Leeds is a mystery, he is a fool who played a major part in coming up with the idea of reneging on the JKA deal ... he should have been fired for that alone, and Bung Sam should have been the final straw, yet here he is ... as for his claim that Marsch was going to be an extension of Bielsa Ball to help justify sacking the genius, oh jeez
Sorry Billy, that is the most contradictory post I’ve read. On the one hand you say all those spouting off about loan / release clauses are talking bollocks because they know nothing and then spend the majority of your post on how these clauses are commonplace around Europe, suggesting they are in place at Leeds? You mention Brighton, I’m not sure if he was coming to the end of his contract so they were forced to sell at a lower price or whether he had the £35 million written into his contract as a release amount so he could move on easier to a bigger club. I don’t know what they bought him for so don’t know if the price still represents a profit, something we don’t seem to be making from our want aways. Yes we save a years wage’s but I’m not sure they’ll be more valuable when/if they come back as another year has run down on the contract.
It’s funny anyone criticising orta a couple of years ago was simply being negative and some had him on a pedastal. It seems most have eventually seen the light
Loan clause for Koch, it basically means he leaves on a free. No loan clause and with 12 months to go we could have got in excess of £5m for him. Llorente he signed a 4 year contract in September 2020 - We loan him again this season meaning he is set to return a few weeks before the start of the 23/24 season so basically he has walked on a free when the agreement was option to buy for £9m At the end of Llorente's loan spell he will be contracted to the club for possibly 2 months, we are not going to get a fee for him, just the responsibility of paying his wages in close season I can't gain any sense of the loans myself
The loan clause for Koch means his wages are 100% paid and an agreed large loan fee must be paid or no deal
Obviously at this moment in time we have no idea how the contracts or anything else for that matter, will work out. My worry is that these loan deals could impact on us getting any money for some players and with a reported £103 million outstanding in transfer fees, would we have enough money coming our way to pay them off?
Sorry ...... I've been worried for a long time that our finances won't be as good as what many people think they are due to owing the transfer fees. As far as I'm aware we've used forward funding for it somehow which gives me Ridsdale bad vibes sadly. We'll find out in the end no doubt.
The parachute payments will cover any transfer fees owed. Plus we still have incoming instalments for the likes of Phillips and Raphinha.
Worry not. We will win the Championship at a canter with a record points total under our new manager who will remain nameless
They should have given the job to me instead of Allardyce cos I would have done a better job for half the price.
I would honestly love to know who put Orta on a pedestal mate. Never ever seen a single fan praising him without reservations. Met a Leeds fan once though who told me, 100% unequivocally that we would never get to the Premier League or buy Elland Road back with Rads in charge. That is written in stone and witnessed so, even though Fido likes to say you were right all along……
He nad one lucky appointment in five years. If Bielsa hadn’t appeared we’d be a bottom half championship club. Oh wait a minute, that’s what we are now anyway
