Not sure what thread this goes on, but Graeme Souness has made me smile - a 70 year old man (who looks great) who has had both historic and recent serious heart issues - has swam the channel as part of a team raising £1 million for the charity, Debra, which supports those with the horrific butterfly skin disease. He did it because he met a young girl, Isla Grist, who has the condition. He has been regularly moved to tears on TV describing what she has gone through and is living with. Souness was one of the hardest players I’ve ever seen (also very good), but his humanity is immense. Nice one Graeme.
I didn’t expect to turn the telly on at 6:40am on a Saturday and start shedding tears, but BBC News is running the Souness campaign story and it’s really upsetting. You’re right, Souness is quite a guy. Poor Isla in constant pain, has had 65 operations and she’s only 14 years old. Horrific disease and so hard for the child and their parents.
