He may not be Lionel Messi but he`d give his all when required,give him a rolling contract,be a good back up? Has to be better than Bruce?

There's no way he's worse than Bruce. Doubtful that he's worse than Bromby.
Bruce is inferior to O'Dea in every way. Pace, tackling, aerially, error proneness. Just a total liability. O'Dea's not been a stand-out performer, but he's only cost us one goal (Cardiff) that I can think of. He's also repaid his couple of errors with goals, you've got to remember. i think we can definitely do better than bromby and bruce but i would compare O'Dear to Collins. Hes a liability, he looks like hes going to make a mistake at every opportunity and the amount of goals that he is mostly to blame for is ridiculous. The southampton game, he was constantly out of position and was terrible, so people said hes playing out of position, hes better at CB but he hasnt been. I dont think i have seen worse positional sense from a defender than i have from him, he's reckless with challenges and then gives away fouls in stupid areas. The brighton game as well, he was terrible and coulda stopped pretty much all of there goals.
From the Brighton game I distinctly remember every single one of their goals being 100% Bromby's fault.
Depends where we want to be next season - I personally would love for us to sign a decent CB who can make us more soild at the back and has a big of age on their side to develop further and comfortably make the step up to the premier league. O'Dea is not that man, we should be looking at better for both this division and any possible promotion.
O'Dea isn't the sort of player we should be looking at. Does anyone want to get promotion?
We have Tom Lees as the one centreback whose impressed this season. Then we have Kisnorbo and AOB who were good but have to prove they can still do it at this level over the next month. Bromby has been at the club for over 2 years now and hasn't held down a first team position at CB yet - he was behind both Naylor (left), Kisnorbo (worse than he was) and even Collins (terrible) - he's 31 and simply will not ever be a first team player for Leeds. Then there's Bruce who was mostly a bad player for us last season, with games against Cardiff and Swansea being particularly bad. He's either rated very poorly by the coaching staff or he's fallen out with them. Whatever it is, I can't see a comeback for him. I do actually remember watching him for Ipswich a lot and then Leicester in a few games and he was good. But he hasn't produced the performances we expected or need.
Do I rate O'Dea as better than Bruce or Bromby? Slighty. He couldn't hold down a place in Celtic's first team squad and hasn't played for them since 2009. Yes, he played a decent amount of games for them between 2006 - 2009 but they since loaned him out twice. He didn't impress at Reading or Ipswich. He has so far been average for us. To me, he's seems like a talented prospect when he was younger but his career's stalled. I wouldn't like to see him permanently at the club, because he isn't good enough for either promotion or to play in the Premier League. He's weak, isn't that good in the air, hesitant in some situations and isn't very tall. He has decent technique but that's no reason to keep him because he get a few goals a season.
If Bruce and Bromby aren't good enough, then neither's O'Dea. We don't need another average CB, we need a quality player who will get us promotion. There's a reason he's available for loan and free transfer.

I don't think anyone on this thread has said he's good enough for a Leeds United starting XI, but he's a good enough fringe player in my opinion. Bruce should be ditched in January along with one of O'Dea/Bromby/O'Brien in my opinion. I don't think O'Dea's looked as bad as Josh makes out, though, and he certainly wasn't culpable for all the Brighton goals (as Simon states, that was Bromby's catalogue of errors).
Yeah, he´d be a good enough fringe player. But why do we need another fringe player? If we sign another CB, we should be signing one who´s better than our current players. We have a poor defensive record, which a big part is down to the lack of a tall, strong leader in defence. He hasn´t been terrible, but he´s not been good. His best performances have all been average. We don´t need another average defender. O´Dea´s not going to add anything to the squad. 2 of Kisnorbo, AOB and Bromby are good enough for back up CBs.
Leeds-18, i wont keep having this argument but i will say i would ****ing hate playing in CB alongside O'Dear.
And i agree with Best Fans, i think we have 1 CB who is good enough for a promotion chasing side but really IMO the rest of the defense isnt good enough for a promotion chasing team (and this includes white). I think the rest of our team/squad is good enough although maybe carrying pugh a little bit at LM but hes still good enough because of his overall game.
We need to replace the defense pretty much in january but because its not the best thing to do halfway through a season, i'd probably just bring in a new CB but the new CB would have to be a really good BUY..... as in paying money for him

Bates isn't going to give big bills for Grayson to sign the quality defender that some supporters want.
IMO O'Dea and Lees were starting to gel and certainly the results started picking up.
We all know the real reason why the recent results were bad and it wasn't all down to the defenders.
