Very impressed by young Joe Jordan this week.Kept his hands down beautifully and lead with his nose with one eye on the worlds cameras whilst having both eyes on the idiot Gattuso Steve Bruce practised and practised and practised that very same skill for years...An object lesson which I think Gattuso will kick himself for in years to come
Heres the stories I`d like to hear from everybody....all about the things youve seen over the years between "The Grippers" and the "Gripped"..... I once saw Charlie Hurley the gentle giant ever so nearly threaten to lose it with Billy Bremner which got instant respect by the way....it was awesome.
Who`ve you seen handle themselves well? Who on the other hand has gone off like a threpenny banger every two minutes? Who`ve you been less than impressed with in the confrontational stakes?......Who has been the cheekiest?...Who brought instant respect?
 
Suarez goes off like a firework at the least provocation, he even got banned at Ajax for biting another player, when we play the Puds if anyone can get him riled they will be playing with 10 men, just rewards for their unsportsmanlike goal
 
Hes just a nasty cheating little **** remember his handball in the world cup stopped a certain goal and should not have been on the pitch
 
Cattermole and Richardson havent proved theyve controlled their "Gattuso complex",for me yet.....I hope they were watching him and it added to their understanding...
 
Remember the good old days at Roker Park way back in the 70's, Ron Guthrie lamped a center forward for a late challenge on Monty, can't remember who the forward was but he ended up on his arse in the back of Monty's net after a swift right hook from big Ron, referee never battered an eyelid either. He'd get arrested nowadays never mind booked.
 
Ha Ha Thats the stuff Im thinking about....I remember Mike O`Grady taking somebodys Adams Apple out one day as he was walking backwards....The refs just used to see it and kind of let it go!
 
Sorry, not what you're looking for, but the mention of Suarez sets me off. Last week for Liverpool I stopped counting how many times he cheated...constant diving and pleading with the ref. The fart of a hummingbird would send him flying. Can't stand the little prick. Done.
 
Roger like you I watch sports one, dont rate suarez, Ajax and dutch football ok, but not prem standard, welcome to the real world, lets see if the boy can live with the likes of catts pushin him round the park,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,lets see.
 
....surprised this didnt bring up more chat really...Over the years weve had more than our share of "uncompromising" players....and theres an argument that if we`d employed some of the local ones that got away we could have done a lot better over the years What made me laugh about the Gattuso incident was that he tried to use the "nationality" card apparently saying Jordan had insulted Italy...poor stuff!
Wonder how he would have fared against somebody like Mick Harford a local lad who has a great reputation within the game still but only with us for a short time

Interesting Bill obviously youve seen him a bit in the flesh which gives you a completely different perspective
 
Lorik Cana mixed devastating good looks with a tackling style kindly described as enthusiastic. Emerson Thome and Steve Bould deserve mentions for quietly threatened violence. John Kay and Chris Makin would be sent off most weeks in these gentler days.
But number one - Billy Whitehurst. I'm sure he once glassed a Grimsby player when challenging for a high ball.

OK Roker! Thanks lads....I wasnt really thinking about violence as such when I first started...you tend to look back and think of all the quiet men who handled themselves really well and let their reputations do it in the past and just wouldnt be messed with ....but then when you think about it since the old days there have been many hard & nasty cases...whats really interesting is how these guys pick and choose their victims!!!....Somehow you cant imagine Sunderland/Milan a couple of years ago.....Gatusso loses it and grabs the throat of .....Roy Keane??? hahahaha!

The story rolls on...there was a good article in the Times today exposing the use of the racism card by Gattuso....about half a dozen people were supposed to have heard what Jordan is supposed to have said....The Italians are saying Gattuso was severely provoked....Can you imagine what this would have been if this was an English player....Its going to be interesting if UEFA take limited action.....decision supposed to be on Monday........
 
I'd like to have seen Gatusso try to grab Joe Jordan by the throat 30 years ago when he was playing, he'd have ended up with his head up his a*se and when we're talking about "uncompromising hard men" what about our own legend, the one and only Kevin Ball, amore skillful and controlled version of Lorik Cana
