I don't want to bring up a topic that has been discussed enough times before but my point is, should Wes have been nominated? Not because I think he has not been good enough, but should he be allowed to be nominated when it goes so blatantly against the Irish manager's thinking. If a top 3 player of the year isn't even making the squad there must be a serious difference of opinion, so should you back your manager?
 
isn't it more down to trapatoni's style of play, clearly they are playing a bit more direct (i must admit i don't see many of their games) so doesn't suit Wes' game?
 
I think it's pretty clear to see that, with most of us having seen Wes play at least a dozen times in the last couple of years, (I've probably seen him play about 50 times in that period) that he is more than good enough to be in the Republic of Ireland squad, if not good enough to be one of their most talismanic players. That's not me being biased, that's an opinion that about 95% of the population would probably agree with, so of course he should be nominated - he's one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League, and thus England, and if Trappatoni can't see that it's his loss - it shouldn't be Hoolahan's - he thoroughly deserves the award, and I hope he wins it.
 
I see Roy Keane is doing an after-dinner speech at the awards, wonder what he'll say about Wes? How about "Wes helped Norwich trunce Ips**ch by scoring their 4th goal in a 4-1 victory to the canaries at Carrow Road whilst I was the manager of Ips**ch, he is a player who has flair and skill that none of my players had and should be in the Irish team.", So Roy if you need to say anything about Wes at your after-dinner speech, hope this helps

Exactly- Hoolahan is a wonderful attacking midfielder but even Lambert has dropped him when he has played 4-4-2. At the very least he needs a Crofts or Johnson next to him. When we lacked that workrate and bite alongside him in our relegation year he looked pretty average and the whole team was very poor.

I think Hoolahan's best hope of getting in the squad would be for Jamie O' Hara to make himself available for selection- that could be a combination that would work.
 
As an Anglo-Irishman, I'm pleased that the job of qualifying seems to have been wrapped up tonight. I was almost hoping for it not to happen, as that would rid Ireland of the Italian (much as I hope for that for his compatriot managing England).

While he's still in charge, Wes won't be included, he just doesn't fit into his style of play, simple as that.

Ireland's loss, our gain, I guess, though I'd love to see me proven wrong.
 
If he gets half a dozen prem goals he should be selected, no reason why he can`t play in midfield or second striker

Well, it's ok to big up your own players.

In my opinion, he's as good as McGeady, and, to boot, was actually born in Ireland, not Glasgow.

The best in the prem, maybe not, but he should be in this squad.
