Yeah Spoons mate, they often have something different on tap which is what I tend to look for when I go in a boozer, like micro pubs they always have a different barrel of something on tap. Apart from price, because I get the hump if it's not less than a fiver lol, my general observations are it mustn't be too light, but it also mustn't be like a porter. If I can get that middle ground I'm happy. My mate had a st patricks day beer in the micro pub during footie season, green ffs, he knew better than to order that for me thankfully.

It's a pity that so many of the Spoons pubs are so stinking as the beer is varied and cheap. I'm lucky that my local changes the beers all the time and doesn't charge any more than £5 for the craft beers or the imported Budvar they serve. Their own are beers are then £4 cask £4.50 keg.

Do you ever go in any micro pubs?

They will have some type of board up with a list of beers they have and the strength, sometimes with a small sample next to it on display. You don't even have to go to the bar, they come to you (little bell on table), but some are so small you are at the bar anyway. Only things to note, there is no tv, no music, no fruit machines, you actually do have to talk to people - it's like winding the clock back lol.

My local is a little like that, no bandit, no pool or darts, just ever changing beer and music. They have the chalk board with the beers listed, percentages included.

Excellent. I've had it before in a Spoons, where I've gone in on a Friday, and loads of students are in the places making a racket. It's then I know it's time to go and find a micro pub for some peace and quiet.
