I agree he was a bit over-protective of his near post. But they’re taught to err to that side… the shot across the goal from a right footed player will typically swerve away from goal so it’s a harder shot to make. Look how often meslier showed too much of his near post and was beaten there. In this case, Porro stuck it in the corner - fair play.

Is Robles good enough for the champ? Genuinely Dunno… but if you have a spare a week I’ll take you through meslier’s fck ups this year bud. Grieves me to agree with Jamie Carragher but he said the sides with the worst 3 starting keepers got relegated. He’s right.
Fair enough.

The one thing I would say though is that every pundit who's a striker says you always have to go across the keeper as it brings the save/rebound into play.

Meslier's form undoubtably suffered from two seasons constant bombardment and eventually he buckled, but I'd still have more faith in him than Robles over a whole season in the Championship.

Did anyone notice how poor Robles positioning was for the second goal on Sunday ?

Way too close to his near post when the striker was always going to go across goal.

Does beg the question as to whether he's good enough for next season ? Personally if we don't get a big money offer for Meslier I'd rather keep the young Frenchman and let him rebuild his confidence and reputation.

I'd keep Robles but not necessarily as 1st choice. I'd certainly sell Meslier though.

I don't want to see the spine of the club involve Meslier, Cooper, Forshaw and Bamford. Get rid of the lot.

Not sure what candidates there are but I hated the football Villa played under Gerrard, so hoping to watch us play something better style than that. The Kent link just gets tedious now.
Gerrard will hopefully have learn't from his one job in the PL so far.

Definitely would be a gamble but there's no guarantees with any coach.

As much as I like him, sadly I’d have to add Ayling to your list.

It is but it’s pointless giving someone with a hopeless track record the job. We can’t afford any more mistakes. Each failed manager sets us further back and is costing tens of millions.
Potter...sacked
Rodgers...sacked
Bielsa...sacked

Mate they all get the bullet at some point and at least Gerrard had success in Scotland winning titles and trophies.

Don't get me started.

Straight away I'd ditch....

Meslier

Kristensen
Ayling
Struijk
Llorente
Koch
Firpo
Cooper

Forshaw
Aaronson
Roca

Bamford

I'd just tell all of them to **** right off. I'd have told them straight after the final whistle on Sunday.

Gerard won one league in Scotland. Beale was his right hand man and the brains behind the ioeration. They both went to villa and had some success till Beale moved on to qpr. Gerard was completely stranded without him and now Beale is rangers manager and doing well

If they'd agree to stay I'd keep all of those you've listed.

The Championship is a totally different kettle of fish.

I might well have been reading too much into it, what with the stress and San Miguel but I said to Ben on Sunday, there was something about Gary Mac’s response when questioned about who could be our manager next year that smacked of, he knows who the next manager is going to be (watch the replay and see if you agree). That smacked of Stevie G and Gary Mac, I swear he knows something.

On a totally different note, got a call from one of the 91/92 title winning team just before 3 on Sunday and can say with 100% certainty (no Twitter crap from Marcos) he, and several of his old team mates cared about what was coming up way more than the passive rubbish I watched an hour and a half later :emoticon-0148-yes:

Hopefully meeting up with him on Thursday for a beer so will see if he has any goss :emoticon-0148-yes:

Guys we need a manager who's available now as there's not a cat in hells chance we can entice someone from another club.

Gerrard or Viera both fit the bill and could be starting work next week.
