Lot of things going for Nathan Jones
  • City fan so would be popular with the fan base
  • Worked wonders on a shoestring budget at Luton
  • So can create a successful team without breaking the bank
  • He knows the championship
  • His salary wouldn’t be huge
  • His failure at Southampton is a negative on his CV but should have galvanised him
  • He failed at Stoke also which I suppose turned out ok as he then improved Luton no end and his Stoke team won at swansea and he did the ayatollah :emoticon-0148-yes:

I'm all for giving him a chance for all the reasons you mentioned. But do you think Tan and his board will tolerate his popularity?

And he likes to play a front foot style of football. Closing down the opposition, moving the ball quickly with speedy players upfront. I think we would like that.

Then just need to find the players to do it.....

He's a yes from me.

My concern is that Sabri demanded the 5-11 players needed to refresh the squad and Tan said no so we’re going to be taking the cheap option again, which will lead to us being relegated this time.

Lamouchi did a decent job given the circumstances but some of those performances at home were dreadful and that squad of players should be better than 21st in an average Championship.

Jones seems to obvious option given his links but any manager with some credibility must seriously doubt coming and working for Tan. 3 managers in under 12 months speaks for itself. A basket case.

You could be right about Lamouchi's demands Sheepy, but I suppose the real question is whether Lamouchi was actually instrumental in keeping us up or not, and whether he could take us forward given the club's present circumstances.

You can blame Tan for that, but its where we are. My worry is who we're going to get instead.

With benefit of hindsight it was vital to get a new manager in with experience rather than the next on the cab rank internally; it brought in a fresh perspective and concentrated the mind.

IMO playing away - where we garnered the necessary points - was less of a burden to the players than being at home where they just couldn’t perform from the off.

I’m in the camp that he got just enough out of the players to validate the view he was instrumental in keeping us up.

I’m not too sure whether his departure is actually a good or bad thing. Was he there long enough to adjudge the squad players available to him? I found some of his team selections and in play substitutions baffling (Burnley away eg?) but we’ll never know what he could have done if he’d stayed and got his new player wishes.

Presuming an appointment is imminent the prospective new manager will have time on his side to hopefully put together a squad capable of at least competing next season rather than having one eye on the trap door.

Wonder if Bamba will stay? He’s a fans favourite but surely only at this stage as an assistant.

In the last para of the OP I said....... "On the evidence of Lamouchi's 3 months here and historically with Forest before, I'd throw sentiment out of the window. I love Bamba for his personality but he's an enthusiastic amateur. Lamouchi doesn't inspire me at all. I was dubious when he came in and said so on here at the time. Nice enough guy but no cigar."

Come on VT, Nathan Jones is your man. Excellent track record at Luton in the Championship.

Don't think that's the answer.
That'll be 3 of the last 4 managers having no senior managerial experience.

Jones vs Sol.
No contest at this stage.

That assumes of course, that Jones would want it.

If Sol takes it, I fear he'll be gone by the first international break.
More new players in the summer, more new players needed come autumn.
No continuity.

The only continuity we have is in the boardroom, where we could do with some change.<doh>
