I watched the Wolves game on Match of the Day last night and saw an unbelievable goalkeeping performance from Dan, ex of this parish, and still wonder why he left. He pulled off some brilliant saves more than worthy of the Premiership and I think it was his only game time since his transfer which must be a big disappointment for him personally. I really think we should have held onto him as without Max, possibly through injury, we have an unknown quantity between the sticks which for me is not the way to build a challenge. Were there other issues such as wages or attitude?

We always knew he’s a really good shot stopper, his weakness is commanding his area, also his wages would be an issue, even as a number 2 now he’ll be on far higher wages than we can afford.

I had a feeling that wages might have been one of the issues which is a shame because I think he would have got more game time here than at Molineux. My issue with Max is that he tends to make mistakes in his distribution at times which puts the back line under more pressure than they need. Mind you I wish we would eliminate all this back passing and it would be interesting to see just how much time we spend passing the ball anywhere but forward, and the time spent in our own half due to poor distribution through the midfield. Anyway good luck to Dan in getting more playing time at Wolves.

Will have more help from defence which will help in the box?
A keeper should command his area and come for crosses, this in turn gives defenders confidence. Bents used to stay on his line . Many of his best saves(I’ve already conceded he’s an excellent shot stopper), would not be necessary if he came for crosses initially as the attack would have broken down earlier.

Big cost cutting going on here and Bentley was in a position where he did not have to cut his wages because he knew he could get similar or more money elsewhere. No need to stay here for a pay cut like Nakhi.

Agree, Kalas may be in a similar position, only difference is he’s been injured for over a year, so other clubs may be reluctant to take him. Hopefully he’ll stay but if he does I can’t see him being here for long provided his injury doesn’t return.

Do think City need to strengthen at GK. Maxs competition?? Slippers and a pipe.

Totally agree, he’s done well and reasonably happy with him, he was starting to let errors creep in towards the end of the season, he’s still young for a keeper and definitely needs competition at least.

The goalie's position is a strange one in that there is only one sub on the bench, unlike the rest of the squad who could in reality play anywhere on the field. Being the second choice between the pipes must be a tough place to be because you are waiting for a poor run of form or even worse an injury to get a possible chance of playing. I can fully understand how a goalkeeper would get frustrated by sitting constantly watching from the sidelines and I'm sure it has led to many a decent shot stopper wanting to move elsewhere solely down to the footballing facts of life. Relying on Max to fill the position for an entire season is unrealistic and so we need to bolster our squad with possibly a weathered veteran who could perform a double act of backup and mentoring for our current first choice.
