By backbone, I assume you mean N'Golo Kante? He's the only significant player you lost that Summer and then you finished 12th the season after, level with Stoke with a GD of -15. Where did the backbone go?

We did reach the quarter finals of the Champions League the following season ... the major difference (besides Kante - who went on to win another title with Chelsea that season) was that Wes Morgan and Robert Huth just couldn't sustain the performance level of the previous season ... transpired to be their glorious swansong ...
