Bit condescending but ok. Two weeks ago the Mail had a sensationalist headline that “extremists” would use rape alarms to scare horses. Horses whose job it is to manage large crowds in a noisy city where random noises go off every day. Now you’re falling for this incredibly flimsy excuse to arrest people who haven’t committed a crime and aligned with the police beforehand on how they’d be protesting, which they carried out briefly peacefully. But you’ve defended fascism enough times before so this is to be expected.
I think you are an outlier in your age group Raving. If Charles croaks soon (and judging by his swollen hands his circulation is ****ed, or he has an autoimmune issue) I can see that there won’t be much public energy left for another funeral and coronation. And as for this idea of a bald forty something bloke being able to ‘transform’ the monarchy by connecting wiv da yoof……I think not. Also sensationally bad value for money, according to the Daily Mail(!) https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...chs-receive-hefty-public-subsidy-compare.html All European royal families receive hefty public payments for their ‘official duties’ but ours is by far the most expensive. Plus ours is by far the richest, Charles has a pot of £1.8bn. All hard earned of course. Handily he doesn’t pay corporation or capital gains tax on his £40m pa income from the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster, and of course sovereigns don’t pay inheritance tax, like the rest of us. Even without removing the monarchy, surely this bollocks has to change? Oops, silly me, he’s anointed and consecrated by God, not my place to question. I used to be pretty apathetic about the Royals, but recently I’ve become convinced they are a symbol of our long, increasingly rapid decline, a tabloid freak show, sedating the plebs. Get rid.
A number of protesters are currently banged up for breaking the law, some with lengthy sentences. They're continually saying they will ignore the law in pursuit of their aims. The police are entitled to take them at their word. It's comic and schoolboyish the way you continually refer to fascism in the UK. Have a look at what's happening in your beloved Europe, France for example. If you'd lived in 1930's Germany, you'd know what fascism is.
A number of men are currently banged up for murder. Might as well arrest all men just in case. I don’t care what’s happening in France. As with the economy, you use something happening abroad to justify the ****show here. If it’s not another step towards fascism then what is it? Again, they aligned with the police on what they could do, did it and got arrested anyway. You might as well smash some **** up if you’re going to get arrested by Braverman’s enforcers anyway.
Wasn’t just Anti-Monarchist protesters arrested. Seemingly being a Good Samaritan and being sanctioned by the Met Po is crime enough.
Two very different issues here The monarchy...yes or no. I personally would like a scaled down monarchy ( they do after all represent an apolitical head of state) of the Dutch system....but that will take a while and a willingness of the Royal family to partake in the exercise, unless of course we go down the route of a bloody coup...and that would not be good But the big issue for me is the police powers yesterday....their powers yesterday had just been bought in by this government... a government that has brought in voter id, powers of arrest, reduction in rights to protest....all restricting the rights of the people they are suppose to represent "Oh its because the protesters have become more radical"....is the cry Maybe the protesters are more radical because no one is listening, no dialogue exists....and our "leaders" are carrying on bleeding the country dry, financially and morally. The police were put in that position yesterday by the politicians.
Even that argument doesn’t stack up as there was dialogue, Republic did what was agreed upon and the goons locked them up anyway. Apparently it’s illegal to carry a rape alarm now in a city where the police are out raping people.
It's illegal because it might scare the horses I believe. I wonder how many women will have rape alarms on them at the match tomorrow. Both my girls carry them
Having a rape alarm in the area that horses are due to congregate in over 4 hours time is not an offence I’m led to believe. Personally, I’m a great advocate of individual police officers….my kid is one…I know the terrible things he’s seen….I know the amazing things he has done for the community…..and looking forward to seeing him get his commendation in a couple of weeks time for saving someone’s life. However the actions taken by the Met Pol this weekend are appalling and not what you should see happening in a genuinely democratic and free society
Haven’t spoken to him for a few weeks, but hoping to talk later tonight. I’ll ask him Luckily he ain’t Met Pol
Coincidently, last week I downloaded ‘1984’ on to my kindle (a bargain at 99p), as my best mate reckons I should be reading more classic books instead of watching ‘pool cleaning’ videos on Facebook. Is it worth the effort ?
Did you not do that at school? Was on our syllabus...****ing Walford High, always choosing picture books for their neanderthals to read instead of proper books
Read it a million years ago at school but I enjoyed it then. Might give it a go again. Preferred Animal Farm.
