Aye, but he’s consistently scoring goals for a half decent team (sorry Brady). Plus, he’d go rather well with our other Colombian.
Pretty sad news but makes what we do with that left back spot pretty interesting now with Fleming supposedly not up to it. Greaves full time? Two incomings?
If we want to keep an Aussie flavour at the club Keanu Baccus is playing in Scotland and is quickly becoming a very top level midfielder.
I’d imagine a new first choice coming in, with Greaves providing the cover. Imo we need someone with pace, back 4 is seriously lacking it
I completely agree but then makes the prospect of a Greaves sale pretty interesting as we'd suddenly need two new incomings to cover his departure - a LB cover and CB cover.
I’m not really surprised about Elder being released, I think if there was a one year option we may well have exercised it, but giving a long term deal was always far less likely.
I'm more surprised in it has a much stronger say in our transfer strategy this summer than almost any other potential release would have done. I would hope it means we have a few players lined up.
I've heard this week Rosie has had his No1 left back target identified for quite a while now and that it's almost all sorted ( as much as it can be at this stage ). I asked for a name but it wasn't given, all I was given was that he's a mirror of Christie. Not much use I know, but I suppose it makes the elder situation make a bit more sense.
Not really, as things stand currently, we’re just releasing Elder to replace him with someone better. Our main strategy will still be to improve our attacking options.
Yes really, it now means unless we're backing Fleming in then we're targeting two left backs, OR are essentially ruling out a sale of Greaves. Releasing anyone else would have less impact - e.g. Docherty is pretty surplus to the midfield, Coyle would just need a single replacement, etc. The fact Greaves is now our only 'recognised' LB and our main CB depth makes that a priority in the summer.
Manning would be brilliant if it's him. Agree it does, and like I said we'd only be releasing him if we have someone lined up so it makes sense, but then will make any decision on Greaves pretty interesting too.
I think the writing was on the wall when he played Greaves at left back. Elder is a good lower to mid table Championship left back. But if we want to improve then we better quality.
Think he was fine as depth but maybe we think we don't need depth if we can play Greaves there. We're keeping Coyle using the same logic but suppose with him being captain there might be more reason to hang onto him.
Both very good players.Kent has a huge engine,is very skilful and gets stuck in(I have heard he's on Vincent Kompany's radar).Morelos needs someone who can get the very best out of him because it hasn't happened yet but he can score goals and put himself about, very petulant though and easily wound up by the opposition. I can't see us getting a sniff at either but I'd be delighted to be wrong.
Greaves is a City player on a long contract, if someone comes in with a big offer, then we deal with it then, until then there’s no issue (and it’s less likely this summer, than it was last).
Yeah agree, just know there'd been some talk about bids coming in. Just think this adds an extra wrinkle to any consideration about a sale.
