Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has told MPs he cannot comment on whether his organisation is investigating who has control of Newcastle and if it is re-examining its approval of the club's Saudi takeover. Newcastle's takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) was approved after "legally binding assurances" the Saudi government would not have any control over the club. However, in a US court case, documents published last month described the PIF as "a sovereign instrumentality of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" and PIF Governor and Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan as "a sitting minister of the government" with "sovereign immunity". The statements were made by lawyers representing LIV Golf, owned by the PIF, which also has a controlling stake in Newcastle. Masters was asked about the documents by Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee member Clive Efford MP on Tuesday "I can't really comment on it," said Masters. "I mean, even to the point of saying, 'Is the Premier League investigating it?', we can't really comment on it. "Obviously we are completely aware. And you're correct about the general nature of the undertakings that we received at the point of takeover. But I can't really go into it at all. "The time when the Premier League comments publicly on regulatory issues is when it's charged, and at the end of the process when an independent panel has decided whether any rule breaches have actually taken place. The investigatory process, we don't talk about at all."
Standard Not606 this munse, @Saff is a master of the craft. Copy and paste news article with headline you know will get response ignore response and just repeat that the replier is scared hope replier doesnt click on, gets angry and strops off.
I often ponder this, what would happen if suddenly the club goes belly up. It's easy enough to say, "oh i'll just support some local team" but, I mean, really? Will you? Doesn't matter if you are in the city or outside, if you have followed a club for 20+ years like I have, or many, many fans on here have, how do you just say "Oh, it's gone, **** it then I support Wrexham" If your Gills just disappeared mate, I reckon a big part of your love for footy would go with it. Joking on here aside, if Newcastle ****ed off, I wouldn't really give a **** about football anymore. I know for a fact when we were in the Championship, I had no idea who was even top of the prem, in the bottom 3, whatever. I just followed the Championship religiously.
Thought about this too I could never reproduce the emotions for another club...we kinda support England but really we get over it quick enough but with your club...it's really complex. I've been to watch Huddersfield town in my life on a few occasions...it's not the same level of feelings...I wish them well but I'm not getting angry over them...no blood sweat n tears from me. I'd have to pack it in
Have to admit this very scenario crossed my mind the season, because we looked potentially not only to be relegated to the National League, but worse, going out of business. Thankfully fate would have it that an American businessman has turned around our demise, in as little as 4 months, so much so fans are talking of auto promotion next season, based on our form since January, probably only second best to Stockport (who deserve to get auto promoted imho). As they say football is a funny ole game. Ebbsfleet are Southern League champions and promoted back to the NL next season, so I could easily have replaced one tinpot club with another lol.
Yeah this Went to see Tranmere Rovers a few times with mates, it's cheap as and you get a few hours out. You're going through the motions cos everyone else around you is into it, but it's obvs that in your heart, you don't give a ****. Perhaps, given enough time, you -would- start to feel it, but I think it's something that is ingrained in you as a kid and sticks with you through life.
