I’m not necessarily advocating for this, but given recent performances I’m starting to wonder if the club might try and renew Walcott for the Championship.

His 60k a week will need to be halved at the very least. But yeah, it would be nice for him to be part of a successful Saints team.

He'll deserve a new contract after his efforts have helped keep us in the prem. His positive effect in the changing room and on the training pitch is renown.:1980_boogie_down:<applause>

You kid but outside of Alcaraz he is our best performing attacking midfielder / forward at the moment <laugh>

Currently outperforming:

Sulemana (I would have him starting alongside though)
Elyounoussi
Aribo
S Armstrong
Orsic
Djenepo
Edozie
A Armstrong
Mara
Onuachu

Recruitment 10/10.

Even before these recent games, I was open to giving Theo an extra year (on a much, much reduced wage).

I'd rather have Theo as a squad player, who might start say eight games in the Championship next season, than potentially spend money on buying someone who is good enough for the Championship but nowhere PL quality.

It will partly depend on whether any quality young players would be available for us to recruit on loan. Because that would also be a way of not risking being lumbered with someone not good enough come 2024-25, should next season go to plan.

Would rather keep Tella than Theo

Yeah I’m up for as big a refresh as we can do really. Handful of players I’d like to keep, most of whom almost certainly will leave. A bigger group of ones I’m not overly fussed if they stay or go and then the ones I do want to leave. Walcott and Tella are both in the middle group for me. As Brendy said keeping Walcott for a season as a rotational/backup option isn’t the worst idea in the Championship. I guess it does depend just how many of our attacking players we can move on, no point giving Walcott a new deal if we still have 7/8 options as attackers

Hard pass on AMN, he'd want a reasonably lengthed contract and he isn't good enough if we return.

Walcott on a 1-year reduced rate with a one year option might not be a bad idea. He at least visibly cares about the club unlike most of the others.

I've been saying this for ages, Walcott is one of the few that actually now plays like a fan in that he cares what happens. Well some fans anyway

So much psychology at work with this thread.
This week is very exciting for football isn't it. I stayed up late last night to watch the Leicester leeds highlights on sky mobile. You know the 3 minute ones. So much tension.
And tonight the big one. Forest v Brighton
I've don't think I've ever wanted the seagulls to win so much!

The Beeb rate our chances of survival at 11% (89% to go down)....

Only one side I can think of has managed to get out of a situation like ours and that was West Brom last time we went down.

I don’t know exactly where they were at 32 games in though.

(scrap that they were 17th at this stage, 20th going into the last game of the season though).

To stay up I’d say we need to win 4 of our last 6, possibly 3 and a draw or 2. So yeah not happening
