Highest cost of living crisis for decades, tax rates raised for all apart from the two poles in society, yet enough money to arm and train foreign troops for a complex war over 2000km away... Odd, or not odd.
Yes, someone else once said about it being odd that we could be going to war because of a far off country of which we knew nothing…
Much depends on whether or not individuals see a real threat in NOT supporting Ukraine and allowing Putin to march through Poland next and whether or not individuals see the merciless slaughter of innocent civilians as acceptable?
If the deaths of civilians are a concern for you, as they rightly should be, then an internationally arranged peace negotiation would be a better solution than prolonging a war against Russia. Poland is a part of Nato, as is where I live, and so a different subject. The Ukraine wasnt regarded too highly internationally for freedoms, equality and corruption before the last years. I would rather see the billions spent on the population of the west, improve health services, pensions, education, policing etc. than a proxy war against Russia.
Yes, someone who had been involved in trench warfare and seen the deaths and devastation first hand that war causes, and was prepared to do whatever it took to avoid it once again for the next generation of British youth.
So is it not right for Britain to publicly support Palestinian requests for military help against Israel - a country founded on terrorism against British soldiers?
Sure, worked, didn’t it? Hitler concluded that we and France would avoid war at all costs after Czechoslovakia was sold down the river. He then thought we and France would stand by when he invaded Poland and was very shocked to find that was not the case.
I wasn't alive during the 1930s, so didn't get a chance to ask Hitler what his opinions were. But you must realise that what happened on one specific occasion in 1938 and didn't work unfortunately, doesn't mean it applies for the entirety of the future. If a peace deal was negotiated, more Ukrainian citizens would stay alive than if war continues.
There's always alternative views of historical events and usually our prefrontal cortex allows us to see and understand several viewpoints at the same time. If you're a nihilistic pensioner with no skin in the game, it's easy to support war in a far off land, but a bit different if you have children of military age and it's a neighbouring country.
I wasn’t alive so couldn’t ask his opinion. So we can’t have opinions on things that happened before we were born? You could try reading what people in Hitler’s entourage have written about it of course.
If you are a clueless liberal it is easy to come out with nonsense. Throwing in phrases like prefrontal cortex does not mean you are talking sense. Though you can’t comment about Israeli happenings in the 1940s as you were not around then.
Fair enough. Then I congratulate your bravery and ability to act upon your opinion when you sign up for the international brigade of the Azov battalion.
Big statement there, however I'm not getting into that argument mainly because I don't know enough about it. However you know as well as I do that whatever money is spent and whatever it's spent on it has to be politically tolerable as well as 'right';.
Presumably you would have been quoting your alternative views based on your prefrontal cortex in 1939 and not having spoken to Hitler and saying it had nothing to do with you?
Not odd. Otherwise in a couple of years we'd have been fighting Russia ourselves. You can't appease a lunatic as history teaches us....
