Yeah agreed. I think in an ideal world we’d have bought a decent RB to take the first team spot and have Ayling as a good cup and squad option but we’ve messed up the recruitment badly. Think it might be a case of getting some cash for Drameh unless we’re going with him for first choice and resigning but I doubt he will now and also getting rid of Kristensen and buying an adequate replacement. Can’t believe how badly we’ve messed up some of our squad building, like had anyone watched Kristensen before he joined.
We have messed up

That's where I'm at tbh.

I wouldn't be upset if any of them leave.

Not signing McKennie is a mistake though. Him and Adams are about as solid as it gets in the PL with Roca backing them up. We need a Pablo to go in front of them.

£35m should get you better than McKennie, or at least better than he has been at Leeds. He's a 20m player.

I've seen enough of McKennie to see he would be a success here. He's getting to grips with the pace of the game over here (which is much quicker than in Italy) and now he's starting to impose himself on games.

I'd take him everyday of the week.

Morning all

I am not sure how I feel about McKennie, he hasn't shone but then he hasn't been a disaster either. I did feel he would provide a vital link in the middle and he still might with the right coach and formation. If we stay up see who comes in as a coach and how they wish to play before deciding it is time to go back.

Replacements for Firpo, Llorentte, Forshaw and Bamford would be my priority, we need to sort out the futures of James, Drameh, Creswell, Tyler Roberts and a few others as well.

There are only two players I'd like to keep at all cost, Adams and Wober the rest have to all be considered replaceable after the last two seasons, I have to strongly dispute the build a strong squad around top players like.... Meslier, Wober, Koch, Adams, Summerville, Gnonto, Harrison, Sinisterra and perhaps Rodrigo

Meslier is not a top player neither is Harrison or Koch. You've named 9 players there Ell so you believe we are only two short of having a strong squad ;)
I would add Gnonto, to Wober and Adams. Not fussed about any of the others. Would rather see someone like Cresswell, who is brave and strong, alongside Wober, Struijk is not good enough at CB for this league. Meslier is replaceable specially for £40 million. We definitely need to move out our remaining championship winning players.

maybe I am still living in the 1970's and 80's but I do find it funny that Meslier is described on here as not being good enough and easily replaceable, and yet we expect someone to pay £40m plus for him.

I get that the fee is more to do with potential, and that people consider we need a finished article more than a potential one, but it still amuses me :)

Gnonto is massively overrated by Leeds fans. I think his form has tailed off massively this season.

Form and talent are two different things. I think he is suffering because he was the main man for JM but seems to get overlooked by Javi, who as someone pointed out has picked some strange lineups of late.

He stopped putting crosses in. I'd have dropped him too. He's another that started to believe the hype after a handful of good games and stopped doing the fundamentals that got him there in the first place. He was trying to get sent off vs Palace because he couldn't handle the situation. I've given him a pass on it because he is young and can learn from it but yeah, he is deservedly benched at this point.

I wouldn't sell him for £10m but at £40m I would, if someone wants to come in with silly money then we should take it. We are not a Man City or Chelsea that can afford the luxury of having someone like Meslier sitting on the bench, he really should be someone's number two. He isn't just replaceable, even the Palace number two Sam Johnstone was miles better than Meslier and they signed him on a free.

The thing is, even if he signed a new contract and he improved leaps and bounds in 18 months time, he isn't going to stay with us, we're developing him and singing what great potential he has but he might never hit it and if he does he will be off anyway.

Another with great potential but I have to agree, he looks busy and the crowd react to him but he is just as near to headless chicken as he is superstar, a season or two under a Bielsa style coach would sort him out

I'd definitely keep him if we could but he isn't a starter for me

Marsch for picking the player and the board for allowing Marsch to hand pick players without doing a due diligence.

it’s why so many signings don’t pan out, though. You have to watch someone looking great in the Austrian league and assess how well it translates to the PL. Marsch was responsible for Adams, wober, kristenson and probably aaronson. Maybe mckennie but we’d tracked him for a while. Meanwhile, Orta brought sinisterra, gnonto, roca plus rutter and some kids. Arguably Orta’s ‘hit rate’ has actually improved post Bielsa.

Wober may prove to be the exception, may, but I don’t think we’ve had anyone at the club for years who knows what a decent defender looks like.

and I have no problem with that, as I dont think he is worth 40m either. Just I would be surprised if we got an offer even close to 20m, and the fact that people think we will get a higher offer even though they don't think he is very good.

I freely accept that we , as the majority of premier league clubs are, are in the buy cheap and develop to sell on for a higher fee, as a way to improve the overall squad slowly, I just think that we have an over inflated value of what players are actually worth to other clubs.

As I previously admitted I'm probably still living in the past if 40m for an average premier league player is becoming the norm :)

Gnonto ran England ragged and beat his man every time. Leeds got into the habit of passing to his side and he got doubled up on. The reason he is benched is because for one he got injured and graciars like to use the squad. Hence moving Harrison to the ten spot.
Lets se how we go on monday and who does well. One thing i do know is Gnonto is no big head.

Wober on the left and Cresswell on the right next season would be great. Two put and out leaders and no nonsense defenders. They're not perfect but at least they'll be aggressive, good at set pieces both ends of the pitch, lead by example and more importantly won't be afraid of telling those in front of them to get a ****ing grip. Get Adams and McKennie paired up in front of them and it's about as solid as you'll get mentally wise.

Gnonto ran England ragged off the bench and as England were sat back defending the lead. He wouldn't have had an impact from the start when England dominated. If anything, he'd be a target.

The good players will get doubled up on in this league. The very best ones find a solution. Gnonto hasn't found the solution, doesn't cross early, doesn't drift inside taking the defenders with him to allow others to use the space he vacated.

It's all good, he's young and learning but it got to the point where it was useless having him on the pitch.

So are you saying we should sell him?

Got to agree with all that he also needs to know when to keep his mouth shut still like him though

I like this completely. Let’s get some aggressive physical players in the spine of our team <ok>
