Just had time to have a brief catch up on this story...seems there's a lot of anger at the sentance up here, including from a few QCs. Offence committed when boy was 17 which is no defence IMO, and the **** deserves to do some hard time as a nonce and realise what a **** life he's gonna lead for the rest of his days
But if you were Russian, would you not now be concerned and outraged that at a new 1300km border with a NATO aligned country ? I’m trying to see it from both sides. I guess history also plays it’s part as I’m sure most Finns have no love for Russia after the previous conflict between their nations
Putin himself has been quoted as saying that there's no bad blood between the two countries... "The Kremlin said that Russia was being forced to take counter-measures to ensure its own security, tactically and strategically, but pointed out it had never had disagreements with Helsinki in the way that Ukraine had become "anti-Russian" IMO this is a good deal for Finland. It'll increase their security and put-off any threat of Russian boots on their ground. What worries me is what NATO might do to shore up those defences. A softly, softly approach and down play the whole thing would be the appropriate action IMO but knowing some of the players involved it wouldn't surprise me to see an influx of medium to long range missiles.deployed, which would.be a red rag to a bull for Putin....although I don't think he'd be crazy enough to try it on with NATO
JK Rowling blasts SNP's 'progressive' Scotland after child rapist avoids prison due to his age The Harry Potter author was one of many Scots in uproar about the 'lenient' sentencing given to Sean Hogg who raped a 13-year-old schoolgirl and avoided a jail sentence. B please log in to view this image JK Rowling (Image: PA) Harry Potter author JK Rowling has blasted the SNP's "progressive Scotland" after a child rapist avoided prison due to him being under 25 years of age. A leading lawyer also described the community sentence handed to Sean Hogg, who raped a 13-year-old schoolgirl, as "extraordinary" as rapists are usually jailed north of the border. p:nth-of-type(2)","usedInTakeovers":true,"relativePos":"after","type":"VIP","targeting":{"index":4,"hivis":"n","hbPlacements":"d-vip"},"sizes":[[8,8]],"hideOnSensitiveArticle":true,"additionalClass":"in-article","name":"div-gpt-ad-vip-slot","bidders":{"ozone":"1420432324"}}" data-gpt-placeholder="" data-response-start="3172.9000000953674" data-type="gpt" data-requested="10564" data-google-query-id="CK-opMH7kP4CFdyJrAIdILoH3w" data-response-end="13504.900000095367" data-timer-slot-rendered="13519.200000047684" data-rendered-width="8" data-rendered-height="8" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; align-items: center; display: flex; justify-content: center; overflow: hidden; z-index: 1; clear: both; height: 8px; max-height: 8px;"> We previously told how the beast had attacked the girl multiple times in Dalkeith Country Park, Midlothian, on various occasions in 2018 when he was 17. New guidelines for sentencing under 25s were introduced in Scotland in January 2022, with 71 per cent of people rejecting the proposal at the consultation stage in 2020. p:nth-of-type(6)","type":"performPlaceholder","relativePos":"after"}" data-placeholder-placeholder="" data-response-start="3173.7999999523163" data-type="placeholder" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"> They were developed by the Scottish Sentencing Council, a body set up by the SNP, which pointed to research that the brain did not fully develop until the age of 30, and for under-25s rehabilitation was highlighted rather than punishment. Harry Potter author Ms Rowling aired her disgust about the sentencing. She said: "Progressive Scotland 2023, where a man gets no jail time for raping a 13-year-old girl in a park. Tommy Ross KC, who has worked on major cases such as the murder of Margaret Fleming, described the sentence as "very unusual." He told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland: "It is an extraordinary sentence. I have been working in the high court for around 20 years and I have never seen anybody avoid prison for rape until yesterday." please log in to view this image Thomas Leonard Ross KC (Image: Benchmark Advocates) Court papers stated that Hogg had threatened the girl, seized her by the wrists and forced her to carry out a sex act before raping her. He was found guilty by a jury and appeared in the dock for sentencing in tears at the High Court in Glasgow. But despite Judge Lake describing rape as "one of the most serious crimes" he still had to regard his age as a factor and also his liability. He said: "For this offence, if committed by an adult over 25, you attract a sentence of four or five years. "I don't consider that appropriate and don't intend to send you to prison. You are a first offender with no previous history of prison - you are 21 and were 17 at the time. Prison does not lead me to believe this will contribute to your rehabilitation." please log in to view this image Growing number of phones and drugs being smuggled into prison via drones, figures show please log in to view this image please log in to view this image SNP blasted after damning report says justice failings contributed to brutal murder of Aberdeen 'Good Samaritan' please log in to view this image Despite the alleged leniency of the sentence, which also included supervision and three years on the sex offenders register, his KC Donald Findlay told the court an appeal was planned. Tory politicians blasted the sentencing. Pam Gosal said: "This is appalling. A young girl will be scarred for life by this horrific attack. Meanwhile, this criminal gets handed a community payback-order. The SNP’s soft touch on justice is an utter disgrace." Murdo Fraser added: "Welcome to SNP Scotland, 2023, where at 16 they want you to legally change gender, but you can rape a child and because you’re under 25 you can avoid jail. And Stephen Kerr wrote: "Latest SNP disgrace and another Nicola Sturgeon legacy: a Scottish justice system that lets violent criminals walk free. Scotland is less safe under the SNP." A Scottish Government spokesperson said: "Decisions on sentencing in individual cases are taken by the independent court where they consider all the facts and circumstances and the Scottish Government does not comment on nor intervene in individual cases.
If you want an interesting couple of hours, look up the Margaret Fleming case the lawyer was involved in....happened a couple of miles away from me, Mrs SM has had dealings with the perps....nasty ****ers Murder Trial: The Disappearance of Margaret Fleming, Series 1: Episode 1: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000d2cw via @bbciplayer
Innocent until proven guilty...so at moment asking rhetorically. Is everyone upto it. Is there an honest politician anywhere?
I’d struggle to name one. However I’m sure many of the independent local councillors do try and do what’s good for their community.
Now they're trying to ban power showers, claiming parts of England, yes England, will *run out of water* within 20 years. The same England that spends half the year being flooded cause it never stops raining. Utter crap just made up out of thin air. please log in to view this image 9

Chris Rose @ArchRose90 Somehow we’ve arrived at a point where Suella saying a similar comment as Jack Straw in 2011 and Sarah Champion in 2017 is tarnished as using the "Tommy Robinson playbook". Even with all the multiple reports it still seems like some have not learnt from the mistakes made. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image 8
The reason we might be in danger of running out of water, apart from climate change of course, is that we privatised the supply of it. The shareholders of these leeching companies have taken £82bn in dividends since privatisation but have built no new reservoirs. In fact there hasn't been a new reservoir built in the UK since 1992. Meanwhile, across England and Wales, around 3 billion litres (660 million gallons) of water is lost to leaks every day. This government prefers to restrict people using water rather than make water companies stop losing it.
