In what must be a tribute to Lawson the government halves the amount of cash it promised to invest in the social care workforce. You know, the workforce we need to both stop people going into hospital and to get them out as quickly as possible. Lawson, whose dream was totally unregulated markets and no public spending or taxes at all, would approve as a first step.

So, let’s get this entirely clear. You cannot legally travel to the U.K. to claim asylum. You cannot claim asylum in the U.K from abroad*. So therefore your only option is to enter the U.K. illegally and claim asylum once you are here. And given that the vast majority of those who take this route are (eventually) granted asylum it would seem the sensible thing to do, apart from the risk of drowning. * unless you are a Hong Kong BNO passport holder, a Ukrainian with a private and vetted sponsor in the U.K. or one of a small number of Afghans agreed to be at risk and can persuade the Taliban to let you leave the country legally after filling in the U.K. government forms. Seems I know more about this **** than Robert Generic.
The following was posted on a Whatsapp group the other day by one on my supposed friends.... Read this and then pass it on to everyone you know.. In 2003 the Labour party was taken to court by a lefty lawyer who demanded illegal immigrants get benefits. He won the case and this laid the ground for today's scandal of hotels and benefits for illegal immigrants. The lefty lawyer who won the case was.... KEIR STARMER I've corrected some of the grammatical errors, but the factual errors remain - the most obvious one being that illegal immigrants don't qualify for benefits. Asylum seekers do of course, but the implicit suggestion that people would risk their lives crossing the Channel for the promise of £45 a week seems ludicrous to me. The fact that they are accommodated in hotels for long periods is a symptom of the failure of the Home Office to process asylum applications in an efficient manner. I don't know the original source of the Whatsapp meme, but it suggests that this will be one of the topics that the Tories will seek to fight the next election on, even though the failures are all their own. If I was Starmer, I would offer two solutions - (1) allow asylum applications to be made from abroad so that crossing the Channel isn't necessary, and (2) allow asylum seekers who are already in the UK to work while they are awaiting a decision, mitigating the need for benefits and accommodation to be provided.
