LEE ANDERSON VS STEVE BRAY ROUND EIGHT

Lee Anderson had some fighting talk lined up for Steve Bray today – no doubt in preparation for their boxing match. In response to Bray criticising his new gig on GB News, Lee unveiled his three-point plan for Westminster’s biggest nuisance:

    1. Get a job
    2. Get a bath
    3. Get a life
Bray insisted he had, in fact, showered – to which Lee hit back “You don’t smell like you’ve had one”.

The assault didn’t deter Bray, who asked if Lee was going to be paying any of his new salary to charity. Lee revealed his generosity, responding “yes, 45 grand’s going in income tax to keep spongers like you”. Guido makes that 8-0 to Lee.

Lee Anderson spoke to Guido following his impressive victory:

“There is something not quite right with a man dressed in strange clothing who hangs around street corners shouting obscenities at law abiding citizens like myself. If Steve really thinks that the Great British public are on his side then he should stand against me at the next election. I will even pay his deposit.”

    How charitable…

One of the more depressing consequences of Brexit is we now have the likes of Anderson and Jonathan Gullis representing us.

If they are not both gone at the next election the country is beyond repair. Hopefully a few others shuffle off too, like Zara Sultana.

The foolishness of the energy windfall tax has now been proven
Cuts in North Sea production mean that the UK’s potential oil and gas resources have been downgraded by 500 million barrels

The impact of windfall taxes on North Sea oil and gas exploration has turned out to be every bit as disastrous as critics predicted. More than 90 per cent of offshore firms are cutting investment, driven away by a raid on profits and the uncertain future caused by political meddling....

EU could strip British TV shows of ‘European’ status

On-demand platforms must carry at least 30 per cent European content in their catalogues under the EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive.

Britain is one of the largest contributors to services like Netflix with hits such as The Crown, Doctor Who and Peaky Blinders watched across the EU.

But a European Commission policy paper suggested that UK shows should not be classified as “European” because of Brexit when the rules are revised.

“The need to re-define the concept of European works has been raised in the context of Brexit,” said the paper, which was first reported by the Politico website.

“It is arguable that, since the UK is no longer a member of the EU, works originating in the UK should no longer be considered as European.”

      Commission considers tightening rules
The quotas are an incentive to invest in programming that counts towards the EU-mandated target because they guarantee shows will be snapped up.

British programmes made up about 28 per cent of the platforms’ European investments in 2021, according to European Audiovisual Observatory figures. That was more than EU members Germany’s 21 per cent and France’s 15 per cent.

European works are defined as those made in and produced mainly by EU nationals or those from countries that have ratified the Council of Europe’s European Convention on Transfrontier Television, which includes the UK.

The commission is considering tightening those rules so that Convention signatories also need close ties with the EU to be considered European, such as being a candidate country to join the EU or a member of the European Economic Area, which would exclude the UK.

However, any changes to the Audiovisual Media Services Directive are not due to be put forward until 2026.

      'Fact-finding exercise'
The commission told The Telegraph it was carrying out a “fact-finding exercise” to make sure European works benefitted from a “diverse, fair and balanced market”. The report, which is due in spring, will also “shed light on the impact of Brexit in the EU audiovisual ecosystem,” it said.

“The UK remains committed to European works. We continue to support its contribution to cultural enrichment across Europe and to provide audiences access to content they know and love,” the UK’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport said.

The policy paper, which is dated December last year, also suggests cutting Swiss programmes from the European quota.

Like the UK at the time the paper was written, Switzerland’s relations with the EU were strained over negotiations over a treaty governing its relationship with Brussels.

UK-EU relations have since improved with the striking of the new Brexit deal for Northern Ireland.

Unlike many others……however sadly the likes of Thornberry and Hodge still seem to be very popular with a certain demographic

The Labour Party hasn’t even pretended to be socialist since 1995, even when Corbyn was leader they didn’t rewrite their constitution. There are lots of ‘real’ socialist alternatives which would be much more transparent and honest homes for members of the Socialist Campaign Group.

But we know why they don’t walk, fly their own flag and focus their energies on selling socialism rather than infighting within Labour - they can only get elected under the Labour banner. Corbyn should force a by election in Islington - he might win in a one off battle as an independent. Whether he will in a General Election where Labour voters really want to get rid of the Tories is more doubtful.

Anyway, they’d all be equally useless if they got into government on account of the total lack of talent on show. Just like the current mob.

I would be amazed if Corbyn failed to win, he's rock solid in Islington. Plenty of local Labour supporters are pretty pissed off with his treatment by Starmer...

That would make them Corbyn supporters rather than Labour supporters. I assume if he wants to stand as an independent he needs to resign his party membership. In a general election they will be voting for a Labour win with a decent majority. Voting for an independent Corbyn, who was a serial rebel even when in the party, is a genuine ‘cut your nose off to spite your face’ act by any real Labour supporter who wants a change of government.

To be honest I don’t really care what happens, but it’s fun seeing the fault lines being exposed time and again. Just when it looks like Sunak has isolated what is now a tiny sect of nutter Brexiters amongst Tory MPs including two crippled ex PMs, and when he might have a better economic story to tell come election time, Starmer saying essentially nothing except meaningless sound bites might not be a very convincing story for the electorate. And if he has a loud bit of his own party contradicting him all the old scare stories will be gleefully repeated by the yellow press.

This will be closer than it seems at the moment.

The biggest factor in his favour is 40 years as their MP, many of the local party won't canvass against him. Sometimes the personality is bigger than the party. Go back to 2000 when Blair was at the height of his popularity and Ken Livingstone stood against the Labour candidate to become Mayor.

You're right when you say the election will be close, once they shine a light on Starmer they'll see how vacuous he is...

They want dinghies to be the biggest issue, though. If they can make people think they're being invaded, it takes their attention away from all the failures and corruption of this government. Tory deputy chairman 30p Lee Anderson has already stated that the Tories want to fight the next election on culture war issues rather than anything that really impacts people.
