I loved our old floodlights
I much preferred them to the ones we have now which are integrated into the roofs of the stands even if the lighting on the newer ones is better.
It looked more like a football ground from the outside with the 4 massive pylons

Whenever I had the chance to travel across England one of the first things I looked for when entering a new city, or town, was to look for the floodlight pylons. To me they were part of the daily life in those various locations but sadly so many of them have disappeared from the landscape to be replaced with probably better lighting built into the main frame of the stadium. Another part of the rich history of the sport has gone forever, but that's life.

Remember 1 night standing [ was always in same spot ] at the open end weather was that fine misty wind driven rain Blowing over, Dolman covered end corner, and the TOWER GLIMMERED TO OFF!
we got the initial impression there was smoke down there !!!! Cant remember how long it was off for but after a while it lit up with a glow then seemed like an age before full light and game recommenced.
Think some time later it was announced there was a protocol, they fixed the fuse ... lol! and had to wait for x minutes for bulbs to " be back to start postion!!! " then had to warm up for so many minutes! players were on pitch warming up at that stage.. cant remember the game or what half or the result be we did buy the last pies at the stall behind the open end!
