That's super! Aren't human beings wonderful?
And if you want a chance to save someone's life just pop along to dkms.org.uk and register. It takes a minute or two. They'll send a swab that you use to wipe the inside of your cheek. You return it and, if you match anyone who ever needs them, your stem cells could save a life. For 90% of people ever called upon the cells are harvested from blood so it's utterly trivial.
A customer of mine a few years ago needed bone marrow cells. I knew his situation and I'll never forget the conversation when I said "see you in six weeks" and he, ever so calmly, said "no, there wasn't a suitable donor so I'll be gone by the time you come next".
I know that's a sad tale and this is the happy thread but the cheerful part is that for about five minutes of your time now you could have the unutterable joy of knowing you might save a life later.

One of those things i think should be advertised more widely, or maybe it has been and I’ve ignorantly missed it. I’ve given blood since I was old enough to do so, and it was only at one of those donations earlier this year when I noticed a booklet about it. I sat down and read it whilst waiting to donate and promptly asked to be put on the register, filled in a short form and they took the extra little blood sample there and then. I’m now on the register until I’m too old and hopefully one day I’ll be a match for someone. Absolutely worth getting on that register if you can. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to potentially save someone’s life.
