sound practice Pete....I equate watching MOTD to the coverage of American football.....there is about 5 mins of actual action on the field, whilst the rest is blokes talking bollox. Perhaps, after the hiatus the beeb might come to the conclusion that the likes of Shearer, Wright et al, aren't actually all that productive. While Lineker is a vastly overpaid Hugh thinngy, ie that bloke on the EFL highlights programme.

Why do people watch an analysis show just to skip the analysis, much less brag about doing so? It'd be like watching football matches and fast forwarding to the throw ins. There's plenty of places to watch the highlights if that's all you want.

Happy to discuss MOTD if you drop the insults. As someone who complains about others' insults and rants I would think you could appreciate that. :)

To me MOTD is predominantly an analysis show, there's countless places online to find highlights of the games if that's all you're after.

I dont want to go to countless places to watch the highlights
I asked you before if you could show me a video of the highlights without going to ten links a weekend but you dodged giving an answer

I don't recall you asking me that but with the sheer volume of your responses to me it's sometimes hard to keep track.

    Free to watch highlights:

    https://www.skysports.com/premier-l.../leeds-2-2-brighton-premier-league-highlights

Easy. Reckon clicking from one link to the other takes less time and effort than fast forwarding through half of MOTD. :)

that's one match and the the time is three minutes
MOTD shows more than three minutes for matches
and you dont have to find up to 10 links for truncated highlights

That may be your preference. But the fact analysis shows for multiple sports the world over exist points to you being wrong.

People even watch shows with just analysis.

Your complaint about having to 'hunt' for 10 games (ignoring the fact that on a Saturday there's usually only 5-6 games) suggests you missed the fact that that video has the links to the other videos just as easily accessible. You asked me for alternative places to watch highlights, not the specific length that MOTD displays. If you need to watch an extra minute or two of replays of a particular goal, or a shot resulting in a corner, that's your prerogative but not what you asked for.

I do read them, you literally insulted me just above while discussing MOTD. It wasn't hard to see.

I can't quite comprehend the suggestion that 'most' people watch analysis shows just for the highlights. <laugh> Most people just wanting to watch highlights just.. watch the highlights.

    Most sports dont have "analysis"
    Horse racing, rugby, tennis, etc
In tennis they may show the statistics for first serves or a few other things
but they dont spend ages going on about if they had used more top spin
it rarely goes beyond discussing if they should have advanced to the net
The only other "sport" where I see anywhere near as much analysis is chess
the only analysis I am interested in with football is refereeing decisions

Maybe you don't watch them but other sports certainly have analysis shows. Rugby League, Aussie Rules, cricket, basketball, NFL, baseball, etc. etc. etc.

That isn't an answer to what I said. I'll make it more simple.

There are television programmes about many many sports that are shown in lots and lots of different countries around the world that include analysis. These television programmes have existed for many many years.

Some of the the television channels that show them even rely on selling advertising. Yet they still continue to use analysis in these program.

So I'm putting it to you that people working in television might know a bit more about this than you and they believe that most of their target viewers want it.

In fact a lot of analysis shows - at least over here - show a much smaller highlights package than MOTD does, with most using highlights to emphasis points of analysis - as MOTD does after the main package. So most places actually think people are LESS interested in highlights during an analysis show, rather than more.
