After the depressing annual financial information earlier today, 2 bits of good news in the following item: - 1. Development of new, purpose built club training ground at the Vale. Proposed a couple of years ago but now going forward, subject to planning. 2. New Academy Training Ground and other facilities at Llanrumney scheduled to be ready for 23/24 season. All positive stuff which someone must be funding. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar
The only downside I can see to this (and I could be remembering incorrectly) but didn't we have plans for ALL teams to be on a single site at the Vale originally? That way the youth players got exposure to the 1st team and vice versa. By splitting it up it maintains a barrier in my mind (though conversely I suppose it could generate determination too in some respects).
You're correct BB, that was the original plan. Time has moved on and the type and scale of funding has probably had an impact. There are certainly other bodies involved in the academy with City not being the only users so the funding and associated costs will be spread. Either way the advancement of both developments is encouraging and can only help the development of the club in several directions at a time when others are scaling back. We may not have an academy of the same level as many Prem clubs but if ours continues a production line into our first team while some youngsters are sold to Prem clubs for six figures or more (as recently) this will prove to be a good investment.
I drop and pick up my grandson from nursery at Rumney Rugby club and have watched the progress of the new Llanrumney facilities. It’s all looking very impressive.
