You only have to look at the comments on that tweet alone to see that this is bollocks. The odd African saying we should keep him, that's it. Keep trying though, I'm sure you'll 'prove' your non point in the end.
The way I look at it Chief, if people can't and won't call him out for what it is, then by default that's a defence of the man. I've seen Utd fans saying they need to know what the new evidence is before they can judge him. I've also seen them suggesting that it wasn't his girlfriend that released the evidence. There's an audio tape of Greenwood forcing a woman to have sex with him and pictures of her bleeding and bruised. That should be the only thing people are looking at. The rest is completely irrelevant and just folk looking for a way out to excuse what he's done. Tel come out and said he should be shot in the face and set on fire. The rest are struggling to outright condemn him and are clearly hoping for a way out for the scumbag.
I don't think the football club could have handled it any different, in all honesty. They had to let the police investigation take its course. I now fully expect them to come to the decision that his contract is being ripped up for bringing the club into disrepute.
I think Man Utd's get out clause will be exactly that, as it is damaging to the brand. It will have to be a dismissal to avoid paying him any contractual compensation, which would also look bad on the club. This is why United are probably taking their time, to consult lawyers so they don't end up having to give a massive payout at a later date, for wrongful dismissal, which can be just for not dotting the i's and crossing the t's properly with HR. How do I know that, because that's how my club got done at a tribunal for racism - not that we actually did anything wrong, but because we didn't follow due process properly. Edit: the easiest option might seem for all parties concerned for Greenwood to just hand in his notice and just leave. However, in later years that could come back and bite the club if they allow him to do that imo. I personally think it's got to be a dismissal but hey what do I know.
I said it wasn't his girlfriend that released the evidence, because it wasn't. That's just a fact, most people know that. It doesn't mean that by default I somehow defend him though, that's a strange way of looking at things? Go on the United board where this is discussed, not one person has defended him and we all say he should be sacked. Equally, every United forum or Facebook forum I am involved with, that involves actual United fans, he has been condemned. To a man. There may well be the odd person wondering what the new evidence is, which is a fair query, no, but how does that = supporting him? The only backing I've seen anywhere on social media comes from Africa, the middle east and Asian and obvious trolls.
What is this you say about racism? No racist undertones here. No siree... @haslam Showing your true colours here fella...
Very much this. I don't know a single United fan who hasn't condemned his actions and doesn't want him out the club.
Diego hasn't condemned his actions or said he wants him out the club. He even said he still has 'hope' about this new evidence. After not condemning him or saying he should leave the club, it's a fair assumption that he'd still rather Greenwood stays at the club. I've always got on with @Diego, more than most, tbh. We seem to have a lot in common but on this we are on complete opposite ends of the scale.
I'll let Diego respond to that if he wants. Only two things I'll say is he said he 'hoped' the police would release this new evidence, not hope for anything else. I've not seen him defend Greenwood or his actions tbf...and I rarely get on with Diego and can't stand the bloke
I am a weird type sometimes who prefers to know facts before condemning. We abolished the death penalty because we hung too many people who were later exonerated. Now i am also one who would be happy to have the death penalty back for quite a few crimes but only when the case is proved beyond doubt. Red top and twatter speak means little to me but like Trebs said i have never defended Greenwood, just a type that would like to know the truth.
I didn't say you defended him. Not sure why you and Trebs have went straight to that... The facts and truth is out in the public domain and have been for over a year. There's an audio of Greenwood forcing her into having sex with him and pictures of her battered, bloodied and bruised. That seems to be more than enough for every other bloke on the planet to condemn him... ... Apart from Man Utd supporters who 'need to see other evidence' before they can condemn him and call him out for what he is.
You are ignoring the "new material" that the police say they have received. I will freely admit i have seen nothing of the video but have heard about 20 seconds of the audio so maybe have missed quite a bit but surely any jury would get both in full length plus any other evidence on which to base their verdict. Like i said, i can be weird sometimes and kind of like a trial with all information given to a jury to base a decision on rather than a trial by social media.
Defending was the wrong word, he's not 'excusing' his actions which I was replying to. I don't think anyone's looking for a way out for him either. If the worst we've got is Diego wondering what the new evidence might be, whilst not excusing or defending his actions, then United fanbase really don't have a problem tbh.
