If rumours are correct Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea ( Enzo Fernandez) are all signing midfielders tonight. If Chelsea do spend over £110 million on Fernandez, their spend goes to something like £650 million, this is the crazy world of the Prem now and we are failing
Oh give over Chelsea spending is lunacy and all it needs is HMG to enforce the ground improvement clause and EUFA to play hardball and one wonders where it leaves them .

Chelsea are the wrong to compare with, but pretty much every other club is out there spending to fix their issues and improve.

We've just sat on our hands once more, putting all our eggs in the Jude basket. And he alone will not solve the issues.

I think it would be more palatable if that deal was actually done and announced he’ll be here July 1st - but it’s miles away from that and an easy one to avoid action now.

Pathetic that we’d actually allow this shambolic season to continue than spend a few quid to address

Sugar daddy? Third highest turnover in the world:11th highest spend in the Prem. Not a sugar daddy we need - just need owners who still haven't got their knickers in a twist because their European Super League idea was rejected and then decided to punish their own club. :emoticon-0181-fubar

I just want a club that buys a midfielder every once in a while instead of having a dozen forwards. <ok>

I recognize that we probably needed a Darwin after losing a Mane, Divok, and Mini Me... But Gakpo, as much as a bargain as we may have got him for, and he may turn out good, is a bit odd when there's a massive hole in our middle.

In general I think FSG have been great though. It is odd how they haven't addresses the midfield problem though. Unless they've written the season off and are just waiting for the Jude, Enzo two man punch in summer.

Haven't even seen us being linked with anyone today.

The office is empty and there was no intention to buy today.

Club was clear earlier in the window that we wouldn't be seeing any other incomings.

Not sure what FSG are thinking or where we stand with them anymore. It does have the feeling that they've either given up on us totally but at the very least this season.
Without CL football, its going to be a drop in revenues which means less money to spend and will make it harder to buy the players we really need, especially when we need big changes.

We can all say, look at Arsenal and how have they managed to get to the top without CL, but how much money have they wasted, how much have they had to pay in wages and how long has it taken.
Not to mention this season could be a total one off for them.

Going to be a costly summer if we do want to compete again. But I can't see it without a big sale and who is worth any serious money in our squad these days.

We don't have to spend as much as Chelsea (that's insane, and is the direct result of them being allowed to just write off £1.5bn of debt by saying it was Abramovich's, imo), but it's a false dichotomy * for the club to be trying to say that because they're not throwing money around like drunken sailors then they're somehow being wise and sagacious.

FSG have done a great job in taking us from near implosion to one of the most valuable clubs in the world.
It's hard to fault that side of their game, but they've shown repeatedly that they don't really get football or its fans.
They've made some bad errors of judgement - price hike, ESL, etc - but they've pulled back from them when they've seen the scale of the resistance.
On the field though they don't seem to have learned much, they don't seem to realise how a team has to be constantly rejuvenated to stay competitive, and they've let us slide into a real mess.
Is it time for a change? Well, maybe - but I'd have serious concerns over who we end up with instead.

no of course not but you talk as if no money has been available and i feel obliged to point out the little matter of £40m spent .

There are two parts to this:

1) look at our net spend over the last 3-4 years compared to our rivals, and even mid table clubs. The lack of investment is down to owners

2) you’re right - we could spend better. This is down to Klopp

This is a collective problem.

actually we spent £35m

it goes upto £44m with clauses.

Just today
Bournemouth have spent £20m
Spurs have spent £40m
Southampton £22m
etc etc etc
well most stuff quotes Gakpo at £39m same as Spurs Perro signing which means we are in the the same grouping as Spurs , Newcastle and above Man Utd and City and Arsenal this window.
Do i think considering the huge capital gain our club has provided for FSG that they could have lobbed £100m to the club to reinvigorate the squad then the answer is a resounding yes but since that hasn't happened we live with what we have particularly as according to a lot of sources JK is very reluctant to accept 2nd best picks .

we spent perfectly when Klopp first arrived but the market has moved and we haven’t. If the market price for a top young midfielder is £80-110m and we have £40m, the chances are that the signing will be sub-optimal. I hate it but we are spending on Poundland while City and Chelsea et al are in Harrods.

Harrods are well over-priced.
