I'll be a bit gutted if we don't at least get one proper centre forward in if I'm honest, but it's certainly not the end of the world and I won't be someone who has a go at the club for not bringing anyone in.

We will definitely have to adjust our style of play up front mind but I think we have enough attacking players to do that, as long as they start sticking the chances away.

For other areas of the squad I think we have enough depth barring any more serious injuries.

Interestingly the EFL COO on sky sports news has just said that based on normal figures and their modelling, they're expecting another 50 or so EFL loans to be confirmed today.

This. If we'd sold Stewart and been in this position I'd be upset at the club. But this was entirely unplanned and we were left bending over with little room to move.

Better than no strikers. No rush now of course as he’s out of his contract so he can sign after the deadline. Ideally we can now spend the next few hours productively and then hopefully it doesn’t come down to free agents.

 

I'm actually more desperate for us to sign a striker now just so that we don't have to hear about how bad the club is at planning from everybody who wants a stick to beat them with every time we draw or lose, rather than because of what it will do on the pitch

'Absolutely loved my time at Sunderland - some of my best times were with you. Massive club'.

You assume those players fit the type of player we wanted, and they wanted to come here.And yes, you're right, we do have scouts, who would have scouted plenty of players. Then we'd have a list of targets. Then those targets would need to be available.

So before you say I'm making an arse of myself, if any of the players you mentioned were a target of ours, then either them or their club decided we weren't where they wanted to go, then that's not something we can do anything about
