Joined not 606 yesterday, spent a lot of time reading some of the SCFC posts on the old 606. When I get in the local I get grief from a season ticket holder who claims I aint a proper supporter, reason being, for the last three years my company (not mine, my employer) have bought Gold season tickets for the Waddington Suite. Prior to that I have watched Stoke since I was approx 8 years old (earliest I can remember) when my Dad placed me on the wall, to avoid the crush, for the Ajax game. When we lose I'm gutted and when we win I get ratted, oh I also get ratted when we lose, but you know what I mean. So, true supporter or not?
You go to the games, you aren't one of the "new generation" and you've supported Stoke through the good and bad. In my book you're a proper supporter, some people would say i'm not a proper supporter because I wasn't born anywhere close to Stoke-on-Trent. Does this make me any less of a supporter than anyone else? In my book no not at all, when it comes to Stoke City the passion of supporting the club runs through my veins.
In the Waddo Cos you are mate. I remember not buying a season ticket some 22 yrs ago. It's the ONLY time i've not bought one since I was age nine, like you I sat on the white wall in the old Stoke End. They called it the "City End". The reason I didn't buy a ticket that season. We had two young girls and I just could not make every game simple. I remember my mates at the time, giving me grief over it. I will be 58 next b/day so work that out and yeah, like you Waddo. Do we seem like we're glory hunters? Tell em to jog off! I sit next to a guy who's similar age to me. He say's Pulis this, Pulis is that. Always having a go a one player or another. He's only on his 3rd season ticket. Surprise, his first was our promotion season. He knows nowt about our history etc. It really drives me nuts sometimes. Inverness, you too are one of the most passionate fans we have on here. Keep the faith guys
Potts I believe that every one of us are some of the most passionate supporters that we have within the football club. Some of us like myself go over the top on a number of occassions but if I didn't do that I wouldn't be as passinate as I am. We've all seen the good, the bad and the downright ugly. In 2002 I was sure we'd get an automatic promotion spot with the squad we had but it was typical of Stoke that we went through in the play-offs and it was even sweeter that I went to school with a Brentford supporter at the time. I don't think I will ever forget Oulare's goal in the 2nd leg of the semi final at Ninian Park. I just don't understand how some people can criticise supporters who go and watch Stoke, do make sure they have no voice at the end of the match through supporting the lads. That is something that really confuses me, people like myself spend lots of money on watching Stoke so Potts i'm with you on this one, Waddo tell them to jump off a very short cliff.
Got the Ajax Programme also but here was the orginal Programme from my first Stoke game away at Hillsboro for the 72 league cup final replay the game finished 0-0 after extra time and went to a 2nd replay the rest as we know is history.i remember a certain clyde best from the hammers causing us a few problems in a team that included Harry redknapp ,Bobby moore, geoff hurst etc. we all know the names of our lads.
Conroy I remember as a kid collecting footballers cards and Clyde Best being the only black player in the league at that time!
You lot are like us Sunderland fans, after watching some of the crap we have had to suffer over the years the fact we are still around makes us either good supporters or barking mad, still not sure of the right answer to that one. Dont know what the gold ticket is but it sounds a lot warmer than my seat and at my age I would always go for the warm option.
