Two things i can never see happening, United being interested in Kane and Antony going anywhere until he has had next season to prove his worth.

Nizaar Kinsella now saying we’ve agreed a fee. He’s pretty spot on with Chelsea related stuff.

Sounds like the player was highly rated by Chelsea but was running down his contract. Had offers from City and abroad. He’ll join U23s for the remainder of this season then head out on loan for next season.

Edit: Ally Gold saying fee is 0 but high sell on clause for Chelsea .

We didn't overpay for Emerson by any stretch of the imagination, though

£25m in a hyperinflated market is not overpaying for someone, especially off the back of a successful loan (or, to put it another way, a value-boosting) on loan at Betis - but not so value-boosting that he could be pitched as someone who'd chip in with plenty of assists given he picked up 6 and 4 assists in his time at Betis which pigeonholes him as a traditional RB which has a place in plenty of systems, but isn't the cutting edge WB that clubs tend to think of large numbers for when somebody makes an offer

Which, bizarrely enough, circles us back round to Hincapie given he's just as likely to play LB for Leverkusen this season as CB - which is no exaggeration, as he's played 10 at LB and 11 at CB so far this season - which actively says Leverkusen are not in a position to ask £50m+ for him given when they play 4ATB they prefer Tah and Tapsoba in the centre and Hincapie at LB, which does undermine their asking teams to cough up

As does the fact that, you know, his asking price was quoted at lower than that even when the Chavs were linked a month ago...

This does ask one small question: who's in charge of our youth recruitment ATM, since the bloke in charge of it left last week and a replacement hasn't been announced?

Unless negotiations were far enough along before the guy left, of course

We’re already overstocked for foreign players for the CL registrations, so we have to get Lucas or Gil out just to register everyone we have.

Not sure where this leaves us, Conte or Levy.

My guess is that Conte is definitely off at the end of the season and we are reluctant to spend £40m on a player who might be pointless for the new manager's system.

Either way we are once again the laughingstock of the football world.

Breaking: Club decides they want release clause paid in full for star player, Tottenham refusing to do so.

If the player was that important to us we would’ve had that clause paid up on the first of the month, not try haggling for 28 or so days in the hope Sporting would change their stance - and whilst it seemed like they maybe did and it’s certainly annoying they’ve done this, I also don’t blame them for going back to their original demands. We can still sign the player though, Sporting can do **** all if we pay that release clause, a big 48 hours ahead for a few individuals at the club.

Not worried though, we’ve got Doherty and Emerson anyway, we’re fine <rofl>

If agreement had been reached why would we be the laughing stock?

It’s quite interesting seeing one or two journalists somewhat indirectly imply they felt Romano and others perhaps jumped the gun with the “here we go” on Porro.

Alex Crook has quote tweeted himself showing he did previously say that talk of a done deal was premature.

Lyall Thomas is also mentioning similar that he supposedly told a podcast last night that despite all the noise he too hadn’t heard of the deal being done.

I think this probably still gets done (famous last words), it just needs us to pay the actual release clause and that’s completely fair, they have every right to demand that.

Ball’s in our court, it always has been with this deal.

I thought it was you that posted that the release clause only applied in the summer. Also others have posted that release clauses are public. Can someone please post the link to it.

It might actually be difficult for us to pay over £40m of cash. Most transfers don't require a lot of cash up front.

And if there was a verbal agreement it would be very bad for future business to cave in after they reneged on it.

Yeah I did post that but I wasn’t fully convinced:
    https://www.not606.com/threads/transfer-thread-fact-and-fiction.343033/page-1700#post-16454784

Here’s an example of a release clause with Barca:
    https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/2298544/ansu-fati-culer-until-2027

Here is Porro’s one with Sporting:
    https://www.sporting.pt/en/news/football/main-team/2022-05-17/porro-signs-contract-through-2025

Sporting reneging on a verbal agreement won’t impact their future business at all though, clubs still deal with us and many mention that Levy is a nightmare to deal with. Seeing as different journalists have come out this morning further implying that talk of an agreement was premature, we can’t be sure if they have actually reneged or just simply maintained their stance from the beginning of the window - pay his release clause and he’s yours, don’t pay it and he stays.

    Thanks....very helpful.
I was relying on this link for how the clauses work.

I meant bad business for us. Would encourage other clubs to do the same as Sporting are alleged to have done.

Release clauses are pretty weird in general in my opinion anyway. They’re either extremely pointless in situations like with Barca where they set them at £1bn but for clubs like Sporting you could argue that if Porro stays there and further impresses he could be valued at €50m-€60m in 6-12 months time, especially in this market where players like Antony go for £85m and Richarlison for £60m, so the release clause then potentially prevents them earning more money.

Ultimately in this situation I think the ball is very much in our court. We’ve got just under two days to decide whether we pay the clause or not, I see little reason why we shouldn’t or can’t to be honest.

If Spurs and Sporting had agreed terms of the deal and then Sporting decide to mess around at the last minute then it’s just one of those things, they’re entitled to get the very best deal they want for a key player and Spurs are entitled to say they don’t want to pay.

My issue is that it’s end of the window and Spurs probably don’t have another target in mind (how many times has this happened).

They are a lever for the player to negotiate a better wage. The higher the release amount, the less risk to the club so the wages can be higher.

Any potential target has to be much better than Emerson, Doherty and Spence. I doubt there are that many possibilities.

Except we do: Denzel Dumfries' name is back in the frame, as per Calcio Mercato Web - which honestly feels like a sideways move given he's been dogshit for Inter this season. Malo Gusto was also in the frame a week or two ago, but along came that Football Manager n00b to make that one didn't happen

One thing that does need to be pointed out: Sporting do have a track record of this sort of bullshit, as they pulled the exact same trick this time three years ago when Man Utd were in talks for Bruno Fernandes, and Man Utd walked away before Sporting basically had to beg them to come back

So, for future reference, that's Marseille and Sporting we won't be dealing with ever again...

Meanwhile, on the potential out pile...

    * Bryan Gil's medical at Sevilla is booked, as per Romano
    * Japhet Tanganga is one player being linked with Inter to fill the impending Skriniar-shaped hole in their defence
    * Davinson Sanchez has talked about needing to make a decision about getting regular football, as per Dan KP - which makes our decision to give him the armband on Saturday look a little different now, doesn't it?
