I prefer us being selective, rather than just signing anyone & everyone (like Chelsea & Forest have, albeit on different budgets).

Semantics..
You think Brentford fans get excited by their signings ?

Clubs have moved into the world of numbers now...

Gordon's metrics are absolutely perfect for the way newcastle play
Yes they did. Cos they are a dog end lower league club who are suddenly spending millions…. And their fans have a hard on over it.

They're not far behind newcastle and none of their signings are what newcastle fans would consider exciting.

Newcastle fans are already being ungrateful and demanding unfortunately.

Last time i checked the owners were the most important people at a football club in terms of spending money.

And yes, i know there's ffp etc.

Being the richest club and having the richest owners are completely different I'm afraid.

Newcastle can be built into one of the richest clubs over time, but right now they're nowhere near being the richest club in the world I'm afraid

We could easily blow people out the water, sign Maddison, Thuram, etc., but the owners are choosing not to, whether through pride, to save face, to play it low-key or because they simply don't intend to spend their vast wealth on football, we'll never know. What's clear is we're not going to go mad. 10th highest spend in the PL - this is precisely where we are, earnings and salaries wise in the division.

The irksome thing about all of this is - Mike Ashley could've done this, easily. It wasn't even difficult to have the club relatively competitive. A decent coach, sensible spending, hey presto. For some of us, it's just a bit surprising we aren't seizing the opportunity in front of us, given the financial might of our part-owners.

The Sun apparently reporting we will buy Kane and Son from Spurs. How much are these journos paid to come up with this? <laugh><laugh><laugh>

That's just the wealth of PIF, but a lot of it is tied up in assets, shares, etc. There'll be an idea of the budget for Newcastle as an investment but it's pretty clear we don't have a blank chequebook.

Staveley told us the idea and it was 250 million in the 1st 5 years on the 1st team plus investment in every other area of the club including the youth team, facilities and stadium.
She also used the word patience about 1000 times
