We have been like this in the past few windows.
Talking talking talking, signing nothing
If Ashworth can't see we need an attacking player asap then I don't know what his job is.
We haven't signed anyone
Looks like we need to play hardball as well. When clubs are going to looking to receive jackpot £60m fees for potentially good players, then it turns the process into a cat and mouse game.
Somebody will back down and accept an offer before the windows slams shut.
I'm annoyed because in the Summer, as many said on here, we were 2 players short - an attacker and a midfielder. It's still exactly the same, so what does Nickson and maybe Ashworth think has changed?
What Howe has managed to do with Almiron & co is amazing, I doubt he was genuinely believing these players had enough to reach 3rd; I'd guess a decent cup run and 7th would be seen as success. But if we're ahead of schedule, then press on. What's Maddison worth, in this market? Reaching his prime, fantastic stats, in a position we need. Marcus Thuram, free in the Summer. Sure, they'll want big wages, but isn't that what the Saudi's signed on for? I mean, Wood was on more than 3x the wages of Willock and Longstaff, did they cry about it?
Despite claims on our spending, we are £300m shy of FFP regulation, and currently 10th highest spenders in the PL this season. Howe's performance is currently out-stripping the owners ambition. It could change in a week, but that's the truth of it.
It's worth remembering that stavely said we had 250 million the 1st 5 years
So far they're at around 200 million including the sale of wood.
Over the next 4 years they'll be selling and buying I feel..

Then we need to be prepared for a dip in expectation. We have absolutely nothing to sell, and players like Bruno, Botman and even Joelinton aren't hanging around to finish 10th.

I would suggest the big 6 clubs and big clubs in Europe would be reluctant to sell to Newcastle unless completely desperate or they offer big money.
I would even go as far as to say our position had made it more difficult.
The ****house clubs that fought tooth and nail prevent this takeover haven't just become good clean wholesome.
We aren't even trying to sign players off them so it's irrelevant
For additional context, just this time last year we were in a true relegation scrap with serious risk of going down. We all demanded a club that tries - and now we've got it.
It seems some are already throwing away those old banners and instantly demanding a club that wins. This is why we get called deluded by some.
It was always set out as a long term plan. Yes we are potentially ahead of it, but that doesn't have to mean we throw silly money at new players for the sake if it.
If the right ones aren't available, or at the right price, or if they are tempted by bigger offers elsewhere, then so be it. We can be patient.
