A laugh reaction would be a welcome addition

Gakpo a few games in, playing out of position in a struggling team. " he's ****, just a replacement for divock"

**** me.

My 7 year old has a better appreciation of football than some of the "men" on here

Thing with gakpo is we were spoilt with diaz coming in and performing from the off and being exciting and producing numbers.

Difference is he came into a team in form and could ease in with no pressure. Gakpo come into a mid table team with no confidence and lined up in different positions as well as wit’s an ever changing squad.

There’s a reason always say jan is a difficult window, not only to get players but also interstate them into team properly with no pre season.

I will offer a rebuttal.

What numbers did Diaz offer?

He didn't score many, he didn't offer many assists?

He ran around alot and did the occasional flashy move.

13 games
4 goals
3 assists

Better than 1 in 2 goal involvement. bit harsh to say didn’t offer much?

Also have to take into account his ability to get the ball up the pitch. Offer a threat in behind, go past a player which opens up space for others to exploit.

Problem with current team is no one can take a man on. Salah has no pace anymore. Nunez can go past players but only with space to run into. Diaz at least can use skill to go past someone 1v1 in a tight space.

diaz was great for us and played a.major part in a great end of season for us.

why question him? why question the injured player we are missing and not the stinking mess that is salah :bandit:

effort, intensity, running. that's diaz. can't wait to see that back.

same for Jota btw

really hoping bajcetic can continue his impressive little.showing and we can add to him so the forwards.might stop snatching at stuff and score a few.

platform.for these forwards is lacking at times.

Writing Gakpo off at this stage is ridiculous.

yes it is.

he does look awful as a cf but he is doing the stuff off the ball showing he at least has a brain and is listening on the system.

he won several presses today.

just not a central player imo. we need to give him time at lw. I'd like to see him with nunez Central in the next game.

I really hope there's a clause in Salah's big bumper contract where it drops down to last years level if he's just ****.

(I am aware there is not one, before anyone says anything)

Disgrace that this keeps happening with football players, they whinge and whine for a big new contract and then show no sign being worth it.

Quite a few of us watched him during the summer when we were linked with him. None were overly impressed and we said so at the time. Maybe Klopp can improve his game but he's not all that tbh.

he's an option. that's all.

you lot were looking for something else. a central focus and you already have Rushford for left side forward (mand the inconsistent martial).

It've have been a complete waste of time for you to sign another lw/lf.

we have not even had the chance to play him where we need him tbh
but.... he's a championship level striker... at best.

there's a lot more to come in another slot.

He was the backup to Antony as the deal for him looked to be going south. We even had an informal agreement with PSV to let them play their qualifers before we bid for him. But in that week we got Antony and that was that. I can only assume Ten Hag was looking to play him on the RW.

When I watched him he was playing LW in those games.

it'd make no sense at all to make him an rw.

mind you Anthony is a giant waste of money so ten hang clearly hasn't a clue ;)

You've only watched him for 4 games so how do you know it makes no sense <laugh>

You probably believed he could play CF after the WC <whistle>

Well given I refused to watch the world Cup... no.

the reality is modern football doesn't place wingers on their tradition sides and doesn't have two strikers in there to hit.

playing a right footed player on the right basically drives them outside not inside and that's not the game unless you've a froward to score and you don't.

neither do we.

diaz, Jota, nunez and now gakpo are all right footers playing lw for us.

same for you lot btw.

what I can tell you is its patently obvious gakpo doesn't make the type of runs a striker ought to. he's going alright in the basics of our pressing system so is showing a little bit of intelligence but he's also all at sea so we need to see him at lw now.

Oh I know, Garnacho and Antony are proof of that. Not sure I agree, as conversely having a right footed on left wing, and left footed on right means they'll end up cutting in, instead of going down the line which I think is a more valuable asset for any winger.

I don't know what Ten Hag's plan would've been for him but he clearly knew him well enough from the Dutch league to do sonething. However it wasn't his ideal preference.

Time will tell what Klopp gets out of him. It would have to be about how he excels in your system and passing game, bcos in terms of individual ability he's not great imo. Doesn't have the pace or the technical ability to go past defenders.

it really depends on what you have to provide the width thereafter.

our model WAS full backs going wide and these wide forwards moving infield while firmino was deeper. now we have no model at all :)

city's model was wide.men staying high.amd wide and midfielders making those bodies in box. sane and sterling were right footed lws. mahrez is left footed playing on right. their full backs don't particularly over lap but rather tuck in round the no 6 as midfielders

Chelsea had hazard for example who was stronger on his right and played lw.

in ye olden days utd had 2 real forwards and two old style wingers supplying them in giggs and Beckham.and then onwards.

but even them when utd had the 5 of Ronaldo, Rooney, berbatov, tevez and park

Well Ronaldo was right footed player on the left.

most teams seem to be reverse wingers now.

If it weren't for injuries, Gapko wouldn't be starting games. We'd be introducing him slowly with odd bench appearances

has anyone commented on bajcetic interview yet.

he might be a klopp parrot on being compact <laugh>

seriously though he should a lot of maturity for a kid yesterday

thiago put him in trouble with a stupid pass and he got a yellow for little contact but he played on for a long time without issue and commented like a senior pro who just dis the right thing in the tackles after that.

for an 18 year old, really impressive.
