Chris Wood "very likely" to meet the conditions of his permanent transfer apparently, according to Downie.
'No guarantees' Wood will be replaced

Manager Eddie Howe on whether Newcastle will look to replace Chris Wood: "From my side there was no plan of letting a player go and not replacing him. That would leave us dangerously short of players. But there are no guarantees.
"I don’t think we will replace Chris with another Chris if that makes sense. His type of player I don’t think is in the market. His unique skills he has we needed that this time last year. He was a focal point for us and enabled us to play in a way to take the pressure off players. We aren’t necessarily looking for that type of player but we will see what we can do. It has to be the right player and that is so important in any deal we have to do.
"We would have targets that we would pursue for sure and we will wait and see how those goes. It’s important not to have just one and we do have a pool of players that we like so let’s see how we go."

That's good business.
At the end of the day, the signing relegated Burnley and he changed our attack and was a regular in our rise up the table. To get most of the money back a year later when we paid over the odds initially is doing very well, especially given his age.

Essentially Newcastle are bringing in an attacking player and are fairly confident they'll land the player.
It has to be this. Eddie has used Wood enough to show he's not completely surplus. So the club must be confident of an inbound who will have a better impact on the squad. All Howe has said is that it might not be a like-for-like style of player, but I don't think we need that anyway.
For howe to sit him down and say you're going tells me the player is a good one .
Good luck to Wood, was vital in our efforts to stay up last season - he gave 100% every time he stepped on to the pitch for NUFC so can't fault his effort.
I'd also expect a few more outgoings, with Karius signing I think a keeper will leave on loan/permanant and with Lewis, Dummy and Targett all vying for BDB's LB spot at least on of them to go also plus maybe one or two others like Fraser, Ritchie, Manquillo (if Krafth's back soon or they young RB is incoming) etc
Exciting though as it means there will be spaces in the squad for incoming signings and if you look at our last 4/5 signings they've been ridiculous! Anything along the lines of Botman, Pope, Isak, Bruno etc it'll be super exciting times.
Moukoko and Fresneda incoming would be mental!

This. Wood gave 100% and helped us at a time when we needed his style of play. unfortunately, he's just lacking the confidence/composure for what we need now. Good luck to him, I hope he helps send Everton down.
I would definitely focus on trying to ship out Lewis. He's more of an attacking wing back and really doesn't suit out style of play in a 4-3-3 formation. He's young enough to sell. And I was surprised to see he earns more than some of our first team regulars. He's on £35k pw, so a good one to shift in that sense too.
