Been a couple of links and he fits the profile of what we’d go for so just putting 2+2 together really
As some fellow forum members have mentioned let’s get the thread back on track , not saying don’t post but if you have something you want to say set up your own thread to discuss the point you are making . I think for once it will be a relatively quiet window compared to what we are used to but we all want any news on transfers so let’s talk TRANSFERS or potential transfers other discussions on a different thread .
I'm in two minds about Simms. He's scored a few for us and would fit right back into the squad. Just not convinced how good he is. He's a presence and comes alive in the box but his general play is patchy. For a target man he's not great at holding the the ball up and struggles in the air. Saying all that He's scored a few for us and would fit right back into the squad If he comes back would like to see him in a two up front with Stewart could be potent.
The fact he will fit straight into the squad is massive, plus he’s developing and we’ve already seen an improvement since he has been here. We would still need another striker also mind
I personally don’t see him as a target man. As you say, he comes to life in the box and that’s where he’s at his best. He needs a Stewart alongside him imo. I would have him back in a heartbeat and hopefully on a permanent deal. The lad is still a bairn and can still improve.
Agree, he’s actually a much more athletic, with room to improve significantly, upgrade on Wyke in that he’s more of a goal scorer than target man I reckon.
Simms on loan I wouldn't bother with, if we can get him in a permanent deal for a reasonable fee then we should be going for that. The lad improved getting matches under his belt, worked better with Stewart than on his own and is still young enough to improve a lot and he looks capable of getting better. Also seems to have the right personality. But a loan to improve his for Everton after what they just did would be a no go and I'm sure the club thinknthe same. The lad would probably be more than happy to return after the last couple of weeks.
True. But with Stewart out he had to play that role and at times he struggled. Don't get me wrong. I'm not slagging the lad he's young and has a lot to learn just dont think we've seen the best of the him yet and playing alongside Stewart would be a potent strike force. I think if he comes back we need to develop him in that role. I think one of our problems is Stewart is the only player we have who can lead the line on his own and its a big ask for the rest of the season. Maybe we need Simms and another out and out target man.
Wouldn't disagree with that. I really hope Simms comes back, he absolutely improves our squad, even as an option off the bench or a chance to rotate Stewart and avoid burning him out
He still scored a few up there on his own but I reckon he would get much ore with Stewart up there with him. I reckon he would be a good addition if we can get him on a permanent. Depends what Everton want for him I reckon.
A lad OTR reckons the Stewart deal is only sticking on the % the agent wants? If that agent was acting for me and delaying me getting a nice bumper contract based off what they feel they should earn from it I'd be sacking them off right away.
It's all a game isn't it? If that's the sticking point then it'll get resolved without any fuss. If Stewart wants to stay, he'll stay* *until the summer when we sell him to Burnley
Maybe Everton might want to keep Simms with his Championship experience to help them get back into the Premiership next year.
Scary state if agents have the final say on wether a transfer takes place or not. If an agent swayed it against what I preferred as a player I’d dump him . In this case , if it’s the only thing , then all other parties must be happy with what’s on the table - they could all just sign it and tell the agent to take what he’s given and stroll on
