The counter argument to your 'position matters' stance Syd T is... last tear we finished we finished 19th and yet we managed to attract Pelkas, Seri, Oscar, Tufan Traore... in our case its all about our chairman his belief and enthusiasm.

Yep. Python years ahead of their time in this scene. Observing the nonsense we have nowadays of those who demand the right to be something that is not actually possible.

We had to pay a lot of money to get them, and Seri had to do a U-Turn. They're also all foreign players who mostly hadn't played in England before so might have seen it as a chance to prove themselves. For us to get proven Championship/PL talent we'd need to be showing good signs of progress.

We also missed out on Twine who went to Burnley and Wright who is now attracting PL interest. Twine chose another club in the division over us and yes wages may have come into it, but no doubt their prospects of bouncing straight back and him being a PL player also played a big part.

Brentford have already signed two players on loan in this window, they had three on loan last season and five the season before.

Brighton had five loans in the season they went up and ten the season before that, they've only stopped loaning players since being a Premier League club, when they can afford not to.

We're never going to be able to compete with a club coming down from the PL with parachute payments and a gorgeous new training ground. It wouldn't matter if we finished 3rd or 21st, it just isn't going to happen.

In most instances, players go to the clubs that offer them the most money. Burnley were said to offer Twine more than we did.

In terms of becoming a PL player, if you have a good season for any championship club, there's likely to be PL interest

But we are improving and look on track for a mid table finish. If we can finish 12th this year that would be a massive improvement on last year's 19th. There's just a fixation on instant success but going from 19th to the play offs isn't realistic.

Players go largely to the club which offers the most money.

Yes we are improving but I think putting young players who haven’t had any Championship experience so far is too much of a risk to take right now.

Malcolm is a young talent, who won’t tie up much in the way of long term budget if it doesn’t work out, who comes with more experience than our youngsters.

You’ve got to blood them somehow but I don’t see the next few months as it. We’ve all seen what a nosedive can turn into. Let’s ensure our safety and progression first and then think of what comes next.

Remember the next home game after one Python episode a group of lads singing “Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam…” in Kempton. Humberside Plod hadn’t a clue what they were on about so just to be on the safe side grabbed a few and threw them out. Naturally PC Nesbit was involved. Over 50 years later and Humberside’s Finest are still as useless when policing matches.

It's not like Jarvis would get lots of minutes, but he might get a few.

We have lots of bodies, especially in midfield and I'm already struggling to see how we fit them all in. So I don't really see the purpose of a short term loan.

I know why LR wants him as we do lack a dynamic winger and he knows that managers have a short lifespan at clubs so he needs to finish as high up as possible. From the club perspective, we need to decide who's needed for next season and who isn't and the lads deserve decent minutes to push their case.
