Absolutely, 100% this. We are going to end up driving him away if fans continue to talk nonsense about him and his family.

They may be big Newcastle fans. But if they were such big Newcastle fans that they didnt want him playing for Sunderland, he wouldn't be playing for Sunderland

And they wouldn't have been jumping around celebrating like mad men in the away end on Saturday either!

The times ive watched him hes been good, hes a strong lad and puts in a shift. His finishing is pretty good, strikes it early n clean.

Needs to improve his link up as over/hits passes quite a bit but that'll come with experience. I liked him when i watched him and the team i scout for were looking at him but sounded like price/wages increased too much once he played for Hungary

Decent technique (touch etc)? I ask as often that finesse is missing in bigger players and I wonder if that contributed to his relatively poor link up play.

    Does he have any pace?

I've got a mate who took his son from the mags to our academy at 9 because of how horrendous the mags structure was. Hes black and white to the core ( sad twat ) but he knows where his son is better off. He hates us as a team as much as I hate them however in all other aspects of his life he's a good lad, he has nothing but praise for the academy and wouldn't want his son to be anywhere else, I'm sure he would love his son to play for the scum but at the moment the only thing he is interested in is his development

His touch was ok actually but he just didn't weight his passes well in the games ive watched. Yeah he is sharp, he isnt rapid but he is quick off the mark and once he gets beyond a defender he is hard to stop as he has good upper body strength

Hes the type of prospect you want the club to take a risk on. He speaks english as well so thatll help him settle in quickly

    Brilliant, thanks.

If his touch is decent then I'd have more hope that his link up play can be coached and developed than I perhaps would if it was left wanting.

I believe that Nemeth has signed and been given the no.9 shirt, which suggests that Simms isn't coming back :emoticon-0148-yes:

Hes definitely coachable and has good upside. He is a player that has the potential to play for a bottom half of the PL type team in a few yrs

Ah I see what you’re saying. When everyone misses it, it’s Patterson’s fault? Not the everyone else who’s missed it first.

The Wigan goal at the Sol was a very good powerful finish from 8 yards out centre of goal. Allows an open goal at Watford? Should there potentially not have been a defender marking saud unmarked striker with saud open goal?

Out of all of those goals, Wigan at the DW and QPR second are mainly his fault (Wigan goal I’d argue a better first touch from Simms would also have prevented the goal)

None of the others are solely down to him. You cannot argue “misses everyone” as only keepers fault. If it’s missed everyone then they accept as much responsibility.

Also, I’d argue he’s made more top saves than even the list you put above, but you probably don’t remember those as you lok fir all of the things negative you can throw at him

I’d hope if the club were to sell Rigg for a decent fee it would be to someone like City/United/Arsenal as a sweetener for future loans. £3m isn’t exactly a massive fee either.

What’s the crack with the transfer policy because he’s not old enough to sign a professional contract? Harvey Elliott went to Liverpool for nout and they ended up only having to pay about £4m compo iirc. An absolute snip of what he’s worth now. Could that happen here if he’s to leave or is the ball in our court?

I said misses everyone because it was a cross that went through the box without anyone making contact so it should be straight forward to collect.

You don’t have to quiz me about the defenders, I’ve already stated how I feel about O’nein on previous posts and his limited defensive abilities but got pelters for daring to mention that anarl. But the Watford goal, their players ran to the byline and Patterson has gone to chase, then retreated and gone back to his line. When the balls came across he’s went for it but missed, meaning he’s now on the floor and can’t stop them slotting home. I’m not sure you can dress that up as anything other than a mistake? I didn’t even mention West Brom’s second either, the less said the better. Both Patto and O’nein.

Imho his command of the area is getting better. But with modern day blocking tactics for free kicks and corners, staying on your line is often the preferred strategy.

Again imho he is a very good shoot stopper and an okay distributor, two key facets of goalkeeping.

He did stop a difficulr shot a few games ago at the SoL, but failed to push it around the corner of the post, one of the opposition players was following up and scored.

So he is not perfect but is improving all the time. He is our best keeper we have had for a number of years. Thinking back to some of the numpties we were lumbered with.

He’s made some quality saves, and again he’s only 20. The penalty save against Cardiff was top drawer. He’s definitely getting more confident playing out from the back which is a must nowadays. Command of his area and decision making on what to come for aerially are his downfalls. As I’ve mentioned above, 2 corners where the ball is within a few yards and he’s glued to the line. If someone heads the ball at you from that close the chances are you’re not going to have a chance to react. He needs to be punching balls like that clear at a very minimum if he’s blocked and can’t catch them.

I’m not here to dig him out and say he’s ****e. He’s far from it, I just mentioned that Bass getting stick for a mistake when he never plays and is far from match fit isn’t really fair when Patto makes mistakes and people won’t have a bad word said about him - someone asked me for examples so I gave them.
