Yeah, we are a long way off. I know Arsenal currently top the league, but City are a joy to watch when they get going like this. And today they have Haaland, De Bruyne, Cancelo, Gundogan on the bench. Scary.
I guess he couldn’t turn it down, opportunities like that don’t come around too often but it’s 1 step forward and 2 steps back for his career now. Chelsea have a habit of ruining young managers careers.
The new Chelsea owners seem to be even more short-termist than Abramohovic but it never seems to have done them much harm. If I was an up and coming manager though I would probably give it a miss, as you are not going to get the time to impose your new system. Think Potter is the kind of guy who likes to set up the whole system from academy, through scouting and into the first team and he is never going to be allowed to do that at a club the size of Chelsea. In that business methods interview that Howe gave he said one of the hardest things he found was to go from managing a small club (Bournemouth, when he started there) to them in the Premier League and then us was moving from control over all aspects of the club to focussing on the first team and not end up micromanaging everything. I think Potter is a similar manager - he just took the wrong job.
