Height and ability of Greaves is a mirror of Christie , both good feet , tall , good going forwrd strong enough at full back . You get real balance and you don’t have to be so concerned about that position on either side - leaves you to focus on shape tactics etc - without needing cover.
I think this is last chance saloon for him abit at this level and Rosenior clearly thinks he can turn the poor past 3 seasons back into the promise from his early career
Agree, it looks like he is running out of road; Rosie would seem to be the ideal and probably the only possibility left to rehabilitate him. How much of it is down to attitude I wonder? Got far too much too quickly and it went to his head. As his only compatriot in the squad, I sincerely hope that Macca has a grounding stabilizing influence on him rather than the other way around!!!
Fail to understand why we are letting either of Tufan or Sinik leave this window. Even if they are not starters, they both look like they can turn a game coming on from the bench.
Can we just mention that Greaves has been difficult to replace with his form recently? This thing about Flemmings height has been irrelevant. Best thing is he goes and gets some game.
Greaves is a centre half though. He’s our best centre half and has got all the tools to become a top class centre half at the top of the game. He’s playing well as a left back but that’s as much because he’s a good players as anything. Rooney played well as a full back but you wouldn’t use him as a permanent solution there. Needs to be playing centre half sooner rather than later for me.
I think his best position is up for debate at the moment to be honest. He's very handsy in the box and has the odd error in him at CB. Could be the Shota effect when he was playing CB, could be a personal flaw to overcome with development. Those flaws are largely negated however when he's playing at LB and on top of that he's been great at getting forward, putting great crosses in and has started picking up goals too. I'd genuinely keep him at LB. His contribution to the team is greater and this position gives him a lot more freedom to get up the pitch, which he seems keen to do. He's excelled there and it's honestly surprised me quite how quickly he's taken to it. Some of his deep crosses into the box have been sublime and he's more than happy to make a run into the box too. I think a lot of that would disappear if he's moved back to CB.
I agree with you, he's a better centre back than a left back. But he's, currently, a better left back than our 2 actual left backs
Greaves is our own version of Dan Burn at Newcastle, an unconventional LB but it seems to be working for the both of us.
