Proves me wrong every week and I couldn't be happier. If I was to pick my first choice XI I'm not sure he'd even get on the bench which is utter madness. Brilliant kid, fantastic attitude and work rate. Absolute proof that success is not just about natural ability
He is already a fan favourite so I don’t see why not. The lads attitude and personality is infectious. We always take to someone who will run through a brick wall for the club and he’s also playing some great football in defence. The club are lucky to have a player like Luke.
He's clever enough to realize the situation. He's never going to be our 'best' player, but his attitude is fantastic, never whinged, never looked to be away when he wasn't in the team, always gives his all, and that's what we want in our players. He's exactly the kind of player every club needs.
The boy's got a lot of heart, gets stuck in, and cares about the club - all the ingredients required by us fans.
I know what you mean, but there have been games, including the Blackburn one, where he was our best player. I bet we have all played in teams where there were lads you knew werent those with huge natural talent, but who you hated it more when they werent available. Those lads that will just keep giving everything, who will cover you and make nowt of it, the lads that are first at your side when in bother, the first to get everyone up after conceding a goal. That is ONien for me and hence one of first names on the teamsheet. So maybe not the best, but perhaps one of the most important, if that makes sense.
Yep, it's important to judge him as a defender, which is blazingly obviously his best position. There, he rarely gets done for pace, is tough, good in the air, a good tackler, can do the necessary bit of ****housery and can play a good pass out with either foot. Plus of course his terrific attitude. He sets a benchmark, and we are lucky to have him.
from the day he loaded his car to head up here i thought he would be a good'un, with a little bit of sh1thousery in div 3 just to win a few more he almost cemented his place...now he has also developed a little more in the defenders role plus every time you see him he has a smile on his face, celebrating a tackle, going ape-sh1t when we score, joining in with the fans singing etc etc. he already is in my mind.
A good player in a poor team, who has the right attitude will stand out. O’nien is playing in a team full of mostly, very good players, with very good attitudes, he still stands out. He is Mr. Sunderland, he’s won over most of his doubters. Last season when he played through all the shoulder injuries, he must have been in pain fairly often, but he kept going, never complained, never whinged, never shirked from a tackle. He is already a cult hero as far as I’m concerned. Love him.
He is a hero now imo. I love his attitude and have heard stories about him that warm your heart. He is also one of the first names on the team sheet for me in a back 3 or 4 and I still believe he has more to offer in front of a back 3 with a settled pair of wing backs. Time will tell but when we do have a team in the Premiership I will be surprised if Luke is not a part of it.
He is a cult hero just for that celebration where he just comes sliding along the pitch. Someone post it up man! It's class!
O9 is a performer. I say this with the highest respect and a little bit of disdain. He always seems to make a big play when we need it the most, but at 28, performing as the number 3 center-back for a top-half team in the championship probably marks the peak of his career. He is a big part of our difficulties/deficiencies on set pieces.
He is definitely a favourite and I like him, hero? Always thought that word is a bit strong for a footballer imo. Not saying that to be awkward. Just reminds me of the daft twats up the road calling anyone that's sucks up to them a Heeerow. Luke though, top lad.
Yeah I know, abit like the fudge in a tin of Cadburys Heros, loved by the few, overlooked by the many.
