You dont watch Spain! Numerous teams built from the back. England dont hit many long balls except Pickford who plays to the wide players.

The squad has the capacity to be more attacking in the second and last thirds, its had that capacity for a significant period. Another Manager can elevate Englands football futher to winners.
I do watch Spain, completely different IMO...yes build from the back, but they do it in a comfortable way, not tap tap for the sake of and they are comfortable with opposition players around them, plus they have plenty of movement for that quick outbreak.....we don't... It tends to be a dozen passes sideways, backwards and going nowhere, very slow...boring the opposition, while we decide what to do with it..
Playing out from the back...IMO England have not perfected it, the same way as many of the decent footballing nations...IMO that's down to the manager/coaches

The two semi-finals were thrilling and I have to say that I can never see an English national squad having that repertoire in their playbook. It saddens me to say that I couldn't see England beating any of the final four and as far as Morocco is concerned I think their national pride and speed would have put us in the shade with embarrassment included. Croatia is a relatively new country and their national belief outstrips the faith that England has in it's nationalism, and many other so called outsiders in the sport are now capable of putting in more effort than Southgate's bunch. Since I left the U.K. in 1975 it has become apparent that not many people believe that England actually has a national day, but they all know the celebration days from Scotland, Wales and Ireland because places here have events to mark those days. If you bung in Robbie Burns night for good measure it makes the national pride in England look rather sick. Thank goodness I was there back in the glorious summer of 1966, and somewhere in my basement is the World Cup programme to remind me.

That's exactly how I see it.

Dont Spain play it shorter and more around the back than England??

England are more than decent.
I think we have decent players yet to perfect it as a team IMO.. If we had someone in charge with the footballing mentality as say, Pep, we'd be looking at a different, entertaining and more of a productive display..our football would be much quicker/slicker and I believe more successful..

Yes. They also have less shots. Make less dribbles. And scored less goals.

I am not sure what I am defending but you stated decent footballing nations. Englands performance at tournaments of being a semi finalists, finalists and quarter finalists is decent Or maybe you meant Englands footballing performances are indecent? Decent is an odd description to use.

I'm saying, our players don't look comfortable on the ball, while keeping possession at the back, comes across to me as looking clueless & boring.. It maybe a tactic implemented by the coach....most often than not, we do nothing with it.. That could also be to do with not enough movement..
I believe that Southgate has a good relationship with the players but is incapable of utilising the players we have to their full potential as a team..needs someone with flair to help him out..or we need to replace Southgate if we want to progress further
Southgate and his team have been very fortunate imo getting as far as they have with the route stages given to them.. again imo we could and should have done a lot better.

Gareth Southgate intends to stay on as England manager until Euro 2024
Gareth Southgate was conflicted about his future following England's World Cup quarter-final exit but is now expected to stay in charge until the conclusion of Euro 2024

I for one, am pleased, I don’t personally see anyone else could do better, and continuity is needed. As the article says one more tournament should allow for a replacement to be found. I also like that they are looking to keep him n the set up after. He may not be your cup of tea, but you can’t argue with his achievements. It’s easy to criticise & say he should have done better, but a final, Semi final & quarter final ain’t bad overall.

project in progress .. get to final and your negativity might just melt!

so we play one decent team and get beat.
Sorry he is a nearly man.
Southgate would struggle to get a job in the prem yet has the england job.
As a team we should do so much better with the quality available.
The football reminds me of watching City sideways and backwards.
Still it is a safe option keeping a nearly man.
Let’s just say our group had three other decent sides in it we would have struggled to even get through.

I actually think that it was our best and a missed opportunity to have at least got to the final, especially with the route we had.. I also think that most of the big teams haven’t been all that, lots going through a transition and players past their peak..
