Far too much emphasis is being placed by the media on players coming back from injury. All we're hearing from Wol and other sources is about the "sick list" of Adams, Colwill, Zak Davies and even the comeback of Sean Morrison etc as though they are going to make a fundamental difference to the club's fortunes. It seems to me the club is riding along with the notion as an escape route from the reality of it all. FFS, apart from those unavailable through injury, we have 26 other fit players in the first team squad from whom to pick a decent team capable of winning games at this level. The current evidence is a damning indictment on the management of those we do have available. There's more than enough ability to do a job at this level to have us in a comfortable mid table spot but it's just not happening. Anybody waiting for a few Christmas boxes from uncle Vince to be opened in January are in for a dissappointment - money alone is not going to change it. I like Mark Hudson as a player and much prefer him to Morison as a person, but have serious reservations about his management skills. I maybe picking exceptional examples, but I'm old enough to remember the like of Revie, Shankly and Clough who "managed" their sides. Having all the "badges" isn't always the answer in management - I feel we need someone in who'll get a grip and shake the tree. I don't see any evidence that it's going to change short term even with a zero sick list. If we're anywhere near where we are now going into the New Year, without a change at the top, we'll be in serious danger of League One football next season.
Yep. Pretty much what we've been saying for a while now. On the subject if Hudson, no question he's a smashing bloke and although not proven to be nicer than Morison, he certainly comes across that way. However, as you suggest, there appears to be lots to suggest that Morison is a more effective manager. Although not having completed the positive changes required on the pitch, Morison was slowly moving us forward. Hudson I fear could be moving us backward at a slightly faster pace It's back to my old gripe that the Tan continues to fund diabolical and costly actions by his unskilled board.
Possibly the abrasive Morison was more successful because he was abrasive. The managers Sparkey mentioned all had such an approach. Fit in or **** off!!!! It seemed to work ...but I still reckon we need a Morrison and a good solid forward to pull the youngsters together and provide a target up front.
The point I was trying to make in the OP was that we're being given the impression by the media and then echoed (used?) by the club that the basis of our problems is the fact that we've had a number of players out with injuries etc, and when they come back we'll be flying again. I can't buy into that. It's a much deeper and worrying prognosis for the club than a few missing players. If Tan wants to make sure we stay at level 2 in this football world of ours, he needs to be far more intune with the club and what it needs rather than short term expediency.
Don’t disagree with any of this. Our club has no apparent ambition, plan or direction; is run by non football people and is just treading water. Seems the owners aim is for City to get to 50 points or thereabouts and just hope they can replicate Warnock’s miracle next season. And if it doesn’t then Dean Whitehead is the next cab on the rank.....
