There will be a huge amount of hype after the tournament and no doubt a few zeroes have been added to his value. But it is such a risky business signing players off the back of international tournaments; not least of all because tournament football doesn't have all that much in common with 38-game season slogs. But also because in the cold light of day, the vast majority of international teams aren't actually that good (I'd say it's probably not until the QFs you are almost guaranteed genuinely strong sides as opposed to very well organised, hard working and efficient sides and/or sides that rely on the brilliance of one single individual to carry them.). Switzerland are a case in point: Put that team in the PL and they'd finish bottom half of the table. The team is largely composed of players from middling clubs around Europe plus a few who are back up options at bigger clubs.
Don’t worry, Spurf. If there’s one position I don’t think we need a player in, it’s striker, so we’re safe from any more Postiga’s… for now!
I do agree but I also love the World Cup (and Euros) for these exact reasons though. Signing any player always comes with a risk but the World Cup can put you onto players you’d never really have known about or thought of as a player you’d like at your club. Just look at Amrabat, Don Fabio was looking at him before we opted for Bentancur and even though I’d say we made more than the right decision, there was a fair bit of nose turning at Amrabat’s name (myself included I think) but fast forward a year and if we didn’t have the current CMs we do now, I think all Spurs fans would be well up for signing him in January. He’s very much put himself in the shop window to some considerably big clubs. There’s been a good few at the tournament I’ve liked the look of too, be interesting if any have actually piqued Fabio’s interest or not.
The Lunatic Fringe came up with a ****ing hashtag to demand we don't sign Amrabat in January Boy, do they look like a bunch of dickheads right now...
Brief check, we're either team managed by that chavvy doofus I had to sack for gross incompetence fifteen years ago...?
