how many pakistanis are in africa
Bloody thousands apparently, and you won’t be surprised to know they are shop and textile owners, funnily enough when I first went to Florida only about 15 years ago, the flea markets stalls were all populated by Americans and Hispanics, about three or four years ago nearly every stall was run by Asians.

do you mean america or africa

Yeah, happened about 3 times, I mean I’m from ‘ull about as least sounding Aussie as a Pakistani does.

I was meaning calling a Pakastani an Indian is a deliberate wind up. Seen it done.
I was in a pub in the New Forest and someone asked me where I was from. Didn’t run to the papers and demand an apology and in time got over it.<laugh>

If you watch the film East is East the use of the Paki word as an insult is rife, but it’s another Pakistani is using it, Pakistanis in Africa call themselves Pakis, however it’s used by other races, white, as a racist insult and has been ever since they came over in numbers in the 50’s and 60’s, Paki bashing by skinheads was really bad in some towns.

There can’t be anyone alive in Britain who doesn’t know that it’s a racist term if it’s used by anyone but a Pakistani, same as black people calling them selves the N word, indeed Taffy, Jock and Paddy are now seen by those called it as a racist term.

My wife uses the term coloured, to me in private as she thinks the words Black people is offensive, we tread a fine line between offensive and racist, don’t Turkish people hate being called Turks?

It is so complicated. Use the word coloured and some smart arse will say what colour, purple, blue and say you should call them black, even though many are not. Now people describe themselves as a person of colour without someone asking them what colour… Must admit “ Say it out loud I’m a person of colour and proud” “ Young gifted and of colour” don’t sound as good as the original songs.

Had an argument with my neighbour a few weeks back when he put B******.
Me and his son pulled him up about it and he said I ain't racist.

This is an interesting take on the subject.

My daughter is mixed race, she gets the 'where are you from' question quite often. She's British, born in Oxford, lived here all her life. She gets tired of it because it's just another thing that singles her out amongst her white peers.

I am sure it is annoying.Though some may just mean it in the same way as when they ask you or me and mean which town or city. There again others may not.

Using derogatory terms or slang to insult a foreign national is racist and unnecessary. However, calling the French xxxxs is acceptable and true.

I think a difference though is that if I'm asked where I'm from I don't get the follow-up 'but where are you really from' or 'where are your people from', which is what this latest palace issue is about and what my daughter gets.
It's another really complicated issue.
