Love Metallica. On at the download festival June 11th next year. At the ROA of 71 I'm going to pass but you young'ns might want to risk a bit of Tinnitus?
I’ve got plenty of tinnitus already thanks mate! Otherwise it’s tempting.
Where do you stand on the pre/post And Justice For All debate? Earlier stuff for me.
Been there, got the t-shirt, too old to get into Metallica, would have loved acdc to play the SoLI miss my annual "3 day deaf spell" since Lemmy went....
I was kind of hoping someone like Metallica would play the SOL, or AC/DC.

I’m of an age where I have to get hooked quickly. You shouldn’t have to “try hard enough” to like an album. Not a fan of the last three like you. Love their early stuff. I’m learning Nothing Else Matters for my New Year’s Eve gig as the landlady is a massive Metallica fan. Already do Sandman. Would love to see them but money is tight until the end of next year when I have a few debts paid off which I accrued thanks to my loss of earnings during lockdowns!! Then I’ll look and see which bands are on where and where I can got to see them.Difficult one that. Favourite album is Ride the Lightning with Creeping Death the favourite track though Ktulu is a fantastic instrumental as well.
But I also like Forgiven I, II and III.
I've never seen them live but from You Tube it seems that Dave Hetfield's voice doesn't have the power or range it used to but to be fair its difficult to judge from poorly recorded videos.
Haven't really enjoyed the last 3 albums...or have I just not tried hard enough.
Only been once and it was Monsters of Rock when I went!!!shows how long ago that wasTwo nights, two different set lists, no songs repeated. Love the Download festival, really good atmosphere, far better than Leeds and Reading. However its £340 for a ticket. Factor in drink and food and its heading towards a grand.
Ive never been to one, but the first one I can remember was 1980, Rainbow headlined, with Scorpions and Judas Priest also on the bill.Only been once and it was Monsters of Rock when I went!!!shows how long ago that was

Once for me as well for Monsters of Rock. 1991 I think. AC/DC headlined and Metallica were second or third on the bill. Shame that I was shattered by the time AC/DC came on! Started the day at 4 or 5am in Ferryhill.Ive never been to one, but the first one I can remember was 1980, Rainbow headlined, with Scorpions and Judas Priest also on the bill.
AC/DC headlined in 81.

The world is my oyster at that point

Yeah agreed. I’m not a “fan” of bands like slipknot and stuff, but I can watch them play as the skill to play that way is unbelievable! The music and especially guitar is underrated by folk who just think "heavy metal" Some of their stuff is very melodic and also pretty hard to learn....well it is for me anyway. I'm learning Ktulu atm on accoustic but find it difficult to keep string separation and end up damping the previous note. Also learning Nothing Really Matters too. The chords are ok but some of the riffs are difficult...well they are for me anyway
