I was in the car today thinking "We need a "you know what girnds my gears" thread on 606 after I heard people saying "Can I get" when ordering a sammich from Subway on Wessington way. The workers "gets" it, you "can I have ***** please. It kind of falls in the language rant. But this could be the thread where we question **** like, Why do these people driving a car decide to put their seat belts on after they've pulled away?

    Guilty.
No idea why I do it, and I'm actually conscious that I do do it.....I guess it's now become habit.
If I could fit something like a sensor to my seat belt that wouldn't allow the car to start unless the seat belt was engaged, honestly, I would fit it.
There may be something like that incorporated into some cars.....I've no idea.
    But, agree.....it's annoying, and dangerous.

    we was.

a recent one that seems accepted 'texted' ...you can text someone, you did text someone, you are going to text someone where the hell did 'i will texted you 2moz' come from.

    board stiff.

he is fick as too short planks he is.

    thier they're are.

the list is endless these days, many believe 'text speak' is the way to spell words...schools no longer teach such things it seems and allow them calculators, brains will shrink.

I've never ever heard anyone say 'howay' (not even skunks) . . . . it's always been 'haway' :emoticon-0148-yes:
It's like the idiots needed to have a different way of spelling the same word simply to show that they're skunks . . . . stupid bastards <doh>

p.s. anybody that speaks like Backo mentioned above is a ficko if they can't be bothered (bovvad) to talk properly :emoticon-0148-yes:

As I've said before, the problem is exacerbated by the fact that 'we' don't correct these lazy people, so lazy 'ficko' speak is becoming the norm :emoticon-0112-wonde

You must have led a sheltered life Gordon.

Born a Geordie, rescued and brought up in god’s country (Stanley), lived in South East Northumberland for the last 40 years and worked with hundreds of accents from all over the north of England, Ireland and Scotland, I consider myself a bit of an expert on regional accents. Howay and all of its derivatives can be found throughout the backwoods and villages of South East Northumberland.

My next door neighbour is from Ashington, he says Heway, Hewaa, Huwaa or Huway depending whether he is shouting at the kids, the dog or his missus, his wife is from Bedlington and she says Heywaah normally or Heyway in company.

A mate from Cramlington is the broadest Geordie I have ever heard and says Howay, Howaay or Howaa if he adds man on the end and don’t even get me started about Amble.

I live amongst them so believe me when I say, if there is a wrong way of saying Ha’way they will find it. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Nope not just you. “Anythink”/“somethink “ etc. does the same for me. My old manager was training and told the students in her class, which I was sat in on, to “pick a pacific item on the screen” and she always pronounced specific like that. If you make a mistake that’s one thing, but to do it all the time make me :emoticon-0121-angry:emoticon-0121-angry:emoticon-0121-angry
