World Cup 2022: Confirmed pots
Pot 1: Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal.
Pot 2: Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia.
Pot 3: Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia.
Pot 4: Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, Peru/Australia/UAE, Costa Rica/New Zealand.

Which Canaries (and ex-Canaries) could we concievably see at the World Cup?

Scotland (if they qualify) would likely take Hanley and Gilmour, perhaps McLean too.
USA might take Sargent, but I think he'd need 10 Championship goals before the selection date to make it in. He's on the periphery of their squad.
Netherlands might take Tim "penalty killer" Krul as third choice?
Switzerland will probably take Drmic, although he's not ours after June.
England? Godfrey and Maddison with an outside chance. Probably requires injuries and Godfrey to be playing in the Prem still.
Argentina might take Emi.

Placheta might get a squad spot for Poland too.

Not long to go now. Thoroughly underwhelming build up compared to previous tournaments. I guess a combo of domestic league focus, time of year and legitimate ?s over host Qatar's method of securing the tournament and their treatment of workers drafted in to help build stadia and infrastructure.

It's a shame, but it seems the show must go on. Nunez has been called up for Chile's final friendlies for what it's worth (they're not going to Qatar). Rumours of Sargent a good chance for the US squad now apparently.

Van Gaal said Krul had no future with Netherlands after Tim skipped some sort of keeper training.

Will Placheta be fit for the world cup? he had been semi-regular in the Poland squad
He wasn't in the 47-man longlist for the Poland squad, so presumably either won't be fit, or has dropped completely out of the picture.

From my attempt at figuring out who might make the World Cup, I think the only NCFC links left are Sargent for the USA, and maybe Maddison and Buendia (looking good for Emi, he's on the 28 man shortlist which will be cut to 26 before the tournament). Krul, Placheta likely miss out. Drmic isn't in the Switzerland squad.

  1. Gareth Southgate names 26-man England World Cup squad
  2. Leicester midfielder James Maddison has been included
  3. Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson also included
  4. Goalkeepers: Pickford (Everton), Pope (Newcastle), Ramsdale (Arsenal)
  5. Defenders: Maguire, Shaw (both Man Utd), Dier (Tottenham), Stones, Walker (both Man City), Trippier (Newcastle), Coady (Everton), White (Arsenal), Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
  6. Midfielders: Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Mount, Gallagher (both Chelsea), Rice (West Ham), Henderson (Liverpool), Phillips (Man City)
  7. Forwards: Maddison (Leicester), Foden, Grealish (both Man City), Kane (Tottenham), Saka (Arsenal), Sterling (Chelsea), Wilson (Newcastle), Rashford (Man Utd)

If Maddison plays a part in any game we get a payout for that.. No idea how much but I would assume it would be fairly significant.

Looking back at coverage at the time, Sky reported the fee as £22m with add-ons taking it to £24m. Given those add-ons probably aren't purely world cup based, maybe a few 100k at most?

One add on was for a "competitive" international.
