Since when was Costa for the over 50s?!
my three year old loves a Costa! It’s got a bit older crowd wise as the students have now mostly gone, but the pubs are decent and Springboard and Folk are always good considering they’re free. Christmas lights could be better, I’d advise taking them down in January instead of August but they won’t ever listen.
Worst thing about Cottingham is the traffic at the minute, there seems to be roadworks at every exit to the village and Sod’s law says you’ll always hit the trainlines as a train is coming. Outside that, I much prefer it to South Cave, which was great until I was about 12, then it became ****ing horrible.

To be honest, I like Cott, I only live about a mile or so from it, and I often go for a run up Priory Road and around Cott centre. I just get the impression that Cott is full of over 50's (I am too!!). The Civic Hall seems to have some decent gigs if you like tribute shows and bands, but the pubs seem pretty quiet during the week nights but must pick up at weekends. Hopefully all the building work on Harland Way will attract younger families and people to settle in the village.
I just want to know why did they pull the Railway pub down to build a row of houses on Thwaite Street that look like prison cells? The doors on the houses look as if they were surplus to requirements at HMP Hull!
I love the Christmas lights in Cott, up until a few years ago, a lot of the wooden Christmas Scenes and decorations were constructed at Kemp's undertakers in his workshop, sadly Geoff died a few years back.

Liked Cott back in the day, it was a much younger crowd, Westfield Club, Tiger etc, I used to take birds to the pubs there on first dates, knew a few of the South Cott Casuals from Black Prince.
But when was the last time you were in there? Not having a dig but people don't go to pubs like they used to. How many times have we heard somebody say 'I used to love that pub, I'd drop in for a swift half every other Tuesday'.
Shame used to be a great pint of tetley
There's plenty of room at the Hotel California,maybe they could put them in there?
It's such a' lovely place'...

The Railway gone?
I started off in the Railway when I was erm 18
Progressed to the Duke and Tiger, Cross Keys was an old man's pub, didn't go in the King Billy or the Black Prince much.

The Railway died a death because no ****er went in there. They tried to revamp it and make it a bit more of a classic feeling pub with wing back chairs and fireplaces, it didn't help. When you think about it, there wasn't really any point in going if you lived the other side of Cottingham, I lived on Hallgate until two years ago and I must have been in twice. People would literally rather walk to the other side of the village where it was more populated. It's the pub furthest towards Hull in the village and there's hundreds of houses down there, but people just didn't bother with it. Same with Black Prince. People want to go where there's other people, which wasn't those pubs. Cross Keys will go, another pub in a now defunct area of the village, unless you want petrol or Aldi protein yoghurt (try it, seriously, it's good).
The Duke is a cracking pub, King Billy has its charms (and a few of my mates work there), Raph's is alright but feels like a knock off South Ella Lounge, Hallgate is Hallgate (but they do carry a very good metal gig during Springboard) and Fair Maid is your generic chicken wing platter, ****e lager Sky Sports pub, so there's something for everybody. Tiger is known as the "naughty boys pub", I'll leave you to work out why. Though it is opposite Cott Pizza which does a very good kebab, even if the older English guy that works there still feels like a trainee when doing the till despite the fact he's been there at least six years.

My daughter moved from Elloughton to Cottingham a few years ago, she wasn't all that keen on Cottingham, but absolutely fell in love with a house that came up for sale well below it's real value (result of a messy divorce). She absolutely loves it now, there's a surprising amount going on there and the Christmas lights are very impressive (many were formerly part of the Blackpool Illuminations).

It’s good yeah, provides ale fans somewhere to go and they always have a fantastic selection of ciders too.
I also missed out Blue Bell, cracking Sunday lunch and good value for money but a bit posh.
